GREETINGS FROM THE MOUNTAIN GOATS OF NORTH CAROLINA, now an all-NC band, our strength regionally consolidated, our wandering paths often returning to near-adjacent lairs. But 2017 will to find us out in clubs and on stages all over the place again: and when we get back from Australia, we’re heading out with Jason Isbell, whose tremendous “24 Frames” went directly into my Repeat Button playlist (“You thought God was an architect/now you know/He’s something like a pipe bomb/ready to blow”: a Rich Mullins fan like me has very low resistance to lines like these) and I’ll probably be standing in the wings getting all emo about it if/when he plays it all tour. The tour stops through some legendary rooms — it’s a lifelong dream for me to play the Beacon — and we’ll be staging our set to highlight some new material and hopefully getting some people who didn’t think they’d find themselves yelling “I hope you die” out loud to the strangers in the seats nearby.
Does this news portend more new news very near down the line? The wise remain silent but wonder and watch this space for signs!
