Idylls of the King is a cycle of Arthurian poems - I read them at uni a long time ago. It's basically Arthur thinking about his knights, his love for Guinevere and her betrayal of him with Lancelot, and the rise and fall of his kingdom. Although the poems often feature other Arthurian figures like the Lady of the Lake, the central figure of Arthur links all the stories.

So I was listening to WSABH the other day, and I wondered if there is a particular reason why he chose Belgium. I mean, it's a metaphor, he could've used any country, why that one?

Sorry I didn't realise there were several recordings of JD playing The Sign on the radio. The version I have has a lot of narrative about the song, and a car ride to Chicago when they made up a dance to it.

It depends...what other music does he like? Sunset Tree and LOTWTC are both pretty accessible, though any of the 3 you are considering are fine.

I am having trouble finding it too, though I believe RedEye Records has it, have not ordered it as I plan to go up there soon anyway. All the local places which are brimming with Mountain Goats stuff (even pre-4AD) do not have it, and I got blank looks from the girl at the local indie shop, when I told her what it was she was surprised she hadn't heard of it.

Hmm, well I saw him at a natural amphitheatre in a winery the summer before last and have to say it was almost a religious experience - especially Anthem as the sun went down - magic! I'm sorry you didn't get the live buzz you were expecting though.

I love the Go-Betweens, first saw them in 1986 and have seen them many times since, Robert used to wear a dress! Love Tallulah and Before Hollywood. Husband suggest Liberty Belle & the Black Diamond Express. He used to be friendly with Robert after an incident at the Tivoli in Sydney. Of course Grant is no longer with us now, so sad.

Mmm...while I enjoy his earlier work I think that his characterisation and imagery has improved in leaps and bounds. Tallahassee especially is so vivid, I have had dreams about it. He expressed similar sentiments at the Sydney show - how hard it is when people record and share everything, because then people say "oh, he told that story at the xxx show too", it detracts from the intimacy & spontaneity of each performance when people are comparing and analysing every little thing.
