Idylls of the King is a cycle of Arthurian poems - I read them at uni a long time ago. It's basically Arthur thinking about his knights, his love for Guinevere and her betrayal of him with Lancelot, and the rise and fall of his kingdom. Although the poems often feature other Arthurian figures like the Lady of the Lake, the central figure of Arthur links all the stories.

Yes I was already aware that it is a metaphor for meth addiction, see my OP - just wondering why use that particular country (instead of, I don't know, Denmark).

So I was listening to WSABH the other day, and I wondered if there is a particular reason why he chose Belgium. I mean, it's a metaphor, he could've used any country, why that one?

Sorry I didn't realise there were several recordings of JD playing The Sign on the radio. The version I have has a lot of narrative about the song, and a car ride to Chicago when they made up a dance to it.

I have a recording of JD singing The Sign on what seems to be a radio program, does anyone know when/where it was?

Well, if he's heard the radio stuff i imagine it's from LOTWTC?
Why not that?
No, the songs he's heard on the radio were Woke Up New and Going to Georgia, although he's heard a lot more live, but I think they all just blurred together for him.

It depends...what other music does he like?
He mostly just listens to your typical classical rock. Beatle

Sunset Tree and LOTWTC are both pretty accessible, though any of the 3 you are considering are fine.

I am having trouble finding it too, though I believe RedEye Records has it, have not ordered it as I plan to go up there soon anyway. All the local places which are brimming with Mountain Goats stuff (even pre-4AD) do not have it, and I got blank looks from the girl at the local indie shop, when I told her what it was she was surprised she hadn't heard of it.

Hmm, well I saw him at a natural amphitheatre in a winery the summer before last and have to say it was almost a religious experience - especially Anthem as the sun went down - magic!
I'm sorry you didn't get the live buzz you were expecting though.

Oceanographer's Choice:
It is a metaphor - when divers (oceanographers) get the bends, they become delirious, and some may choose certain death by staying down and drowning, because in their delirium they think they are happy, they are alright and it is the best place to be. It's analagous to the Alpha narrator choosing to stay in the toxic relationship, even though, as already mentioned in N

I love the Go-Betweens, first saw them in 1986 and have seen them many times since, Robert used to wear a dress! Love Tallulah and Before Hollywood. Husband suggest Liberty Belle & the Black Diamond Express. He used to be friendly with Robert after an incident at the Tivoli in Sydney. Of course Grant is no longer with us now, so sad.

Mmm...while I enjoy his earlier work I think that his characterisation and imagery has improved in leaps and bounds. Tallahassee especially is so vivid, I have had dreams about it. And WSABH, it's so funny and tender and sad. Everyone draws their own meaning from the songs, no matter how "straightforward" we may find them. I for one have not been drawn to the Bible by TLOTWTC, and fi

He expressed similar sentiments at the Sydney show - how hard it is when people record and share everything, because then people say "oh, he told that story at the xxx show too", it detracts from the intimacy & spontaneity of each performance when people are comparing and analysing every little thing.

Cronic you are misinformed.
Rather than cause debt, the ALP acted quickly (on Treasury advice) to bring in a series of packages designed to get money out into the community quickly. As a result, Australia escaped the GFC as experienced in other western countries. The unfortunate by-product of this was people taking advantage of govt grants (shonky insulation operators etc).

Cronic, must be a local slang for your area. Btw ass is an american word, the Australian version is arse.
Yes, we finally have a female PM.
It happened very suddenly, but I think it is a good thing.
Also Cronic I think you are a bit confused - people don't choose the leader here - we have the Westminster System, which means we vote for the party candidate, and the majority leader become

My dog somehow hurt two of his limbs, and now he doesn't seem to be the same dog. He didn't budge when I offered a walk, as I expected, but he seems like he's in so much pain. We can't really afford to take him to the vet, so we're wondering about what sorts of painkillers we can give dogs. The ones we have in the house are reportedly ok for most dogs to use, except in rare ca

There was another thread on this song where somebody compared it to the moment where, if suffering from the bends, a diver chooses to stay down, in so doing sealing their own doom.
