I'm so excited about Fort Lauderdale I can't contain myself. I normally have to drive 4+ hours to see JD play at whatever Central or North Florida dive with which he graces us with his presence. What an awesome treat this will be. First time playing in South Florida ever, no?

I think it was my favorite live version of Houseguest. Jam Eater Blues sounded great too; JD stumbled through it a little bit in Orlando. You're right about the talkers. I probably would have recognized White Cedar from older bootlegs if I could frickin' hear him.

JD, PPH and Wurster were totally on last night in a nice, lengthy set to headline the Antiwarpt festival. Not too many set list surprises, but a solid list full of enthusiastic, crowd-pleasing singalongs. I was quite disappointed with the Orlando show in January; this was 10X better, with a set list that was about half the same. Probably my favorite of all the full-band shows I've seen.

FYI everyone -- I'm selling the legendary Darnielle/Vanderslice 2004: A Less Totally Fucked America t-shirt, if anyone's interested. Size large, barely worn, like new...

It did strike me as a short set as well.
The solo set was:
My Favorite Things
Jam Eater Blues
You Were Cool
The encore was:
Samuel 15:23
Quito
houseguest
Band was a little sloppy; didn't know the new songs well enough. Lots of starts and stops. Of the 11 tMG shows I've seen, this was not one of my favorites.

I have no idea Twi, but your description of the venue sounds accurate. The schedule for the place lists mostly small and local bands. It was my first time in Gainesville, and I loved that little area where the club is ... in walking distance, there was a record store, an art-house video rental store, a vegan ice cream store, two hookah/kava bars and a feminist/lesbian bookstore. Nice to be in a c

Thats Alpha. I should have gotten it signed, but I forgot in my star-struck moments talking to John after the show. Going to Georgia would have been nice. I was hollering for California Song. No complaints though, of course!

This show was, indeed, magical. Well worth the 5+-hour drive from Fort Lauderdale -- this was the best tMG show of the 10 or so that I've seen. For Up the Wolves, John unplugged his guitar and went off mic to sing with the audience. This show had a theme, with the first letter of each song title spelling out GOING TO GAINESVILLE. I was the first to publicly acknowledge this in the crowd, and John

Does anyone know how to convert these m4a files from this show to mp3s? Thanks so much!!

FYI, according to the guy who's running HoH, Billy Bragg is indeed playing the SAME night as the Mountain Goats. Shouldn't be any conflict to hit up both tMG shows and still see Billy.

I went last year, when JV and JD played back to back sets shortly before they began the Gone Primitive tour. A mesmerizing set list, almost a greatest hits show.

tMG is back for the second annual Harvest of Hope fest in St. Augustine March 12 to 14, alongside Billy Bragg, Kimya Dawson, Rogue Wave, etc!
Wonder if there will be in Orlando make-up date around this time as well??

Hi John,
I'm a freelance writer for the Orlando Weekly and would love to set up a phoner with you to promote your appearance at the Social. Who do I go through to arrange this? My e-mail to the contact listed on this site, Sonya Kolowrat, was bounced back to me, and I can't find a specific name on the Beggars site. Thank you,

I was at this phenomenal show too, there for the entire three days of this festival. I swear tMG drew more audience than any other band ... or it was at least among the top 3 draws.
If you ever wondered what Ox Baker Triumphant was about, the backstory is just as great as the song.

This seems to indicate that tMG is playing this festival in Saint Augustine!
Is this true? And are there any other Florida dates to go along with it?

It was indeed UCF, though I kinda wish it had been Rollins! You?

Sparrow -- South Florida, where I write about the arts, but I spent a few years in college at Central Florida. Went to all the Orlando tMG shows. How about you?

Wow, thanks John! You just made my day, and my mother's, too. Hope you can make it out to Florida sometime soon. Haven't seen you here since Saint Augustine in 2006. A signed copy of the book would await your visit.

Hi everyone! Longtime reader, first-time poster. I wanted to report that my mother Cynthia, an 18-times-published romance novelist for Harlequin, referenced the Mountain Goats in page 201 of her latest book, Christmas in Key West. She knows that tMG is my favorite band, so it was sort of a cute literary shout-out.
Because I have too much time on my hands and am a writer myself (entertainment j
