i keep finding things out johns life. and in a way, his personal life would really contrast with my own: im not religious and i kinda dont like vegans/vegetarians. but i dont hink about it too much. i just enjoy his music. so long as he doesnt start getting preachy about religion, eating habits, etc. im fine. you know what i mean?

QuoteBlack AmnesiaThe Hold Steady's "Girls Like Status" references "This Year":
QuoteCraig FinnIt was song number 3 on John's last CD. Gonna make it through this year if it kills me, and it almost killed me.
is that on the last HS album?

QuoteSteveSee America Right - was hooked on the storytelling from that moment.
that was the first song i heard too. i was researching music to listen to and that was on a rough trade compiliation. it is such a weird little song; really short and simple, but the storyline was brilliant. it made me want to know more about what this man was all about. and the those little guitar noises, the way he

i just cant get into sufjan stevens. i mean, hes supposedly writing an album for every state, right? and he has 2 done? and instead of going on with the project he puts out these silly b-side albums and christmas songs. snow patrol dropped his name in a song, and i think that has something to with his popularity. i think hes one of those artists everybody is supposed to like, because the critics

its a really great album. i think wild sage might be one of my top ten songs now. that line: 'and if somebody asks if im ok/ i dont know what to say' is absolutely killer. how can anybody not relate to that? unless you are heartless, i suppose.

oh, i made my own sea salt. and i cooked gumbo, which no one had ever heard of. i milked a cow and i plucked a guinea fowl. i prefer avocado beurre blanc (a pseudo beurre blanc without butter or cream. actually, it could be a vegan bb.)
i still havent made a foam, but they are kinda lame-like. purchased mcgee though; finished reading herve this. did work experience at a gastro-pub; held a dinn

um, im in ireland at a cooking program and could not make it to this event, which is heartbreaking for me. however, i was wondering, john, if you could maybe make a live recording of it. you could sell it and turn the profits over to farm sanctuary yourself. and for those of us who are gonna miss it, you know, we could hear it at least and you could make some more money for the charity. to me its

i dont want to burst any bubbles, mind you. in these forums, its fun to dissect the mystique of the goats. but put on the actual songs and i dont give a damn about who and whats where and why.

thats pretty funny.
honestly, i think the guy just writes these songs because theyre amusing to him. i think he doesnt plot anything out. we should just ask him which ones are alpha songs.

Quotejebrejecti mean, can males only relate to males and females only to females? surely that's not the case, and if it is for you personally i feel deeply sorry for you
no, not at all.
i think a song like 'half dead' is a perfect example of a song that can be either a male or female perspective, and i think it was written to work that way.
but, i think some of the other mg songs with sp

QuotejebrejectQuotemonkeyskullit might be 'fix my eyes' as in an act of staring, which i am inclined to think, and did.
Hm, this makes sense. I don't know, I've just always felt that that song in particular is from the perspective of a woman. And I still do. That's how it feels for me. But my point still stands: it doesn't matter whether the narrator is a male or a female, etc., the song s

i agree with nall.
i do think female or male perspective has a lot of bearing on the emotional quality of a song depending on the sex of the listener. it is important to have these sorts of precepts.

yeah i know its not. im saying that lyric about the purse indicates clearly to me that the song is from a male perspective.
sure, all things are possible. he could be talking from the point of view of cats too.
but for arguments sake, i believe that the majority of the songs are from a male perspective. john the writer is a haterosexual male and he is not a cat. so i think it is safe to sa
