Allen Callaci

April 30, 2012 10:42AM | Allen Callaci
I know since you guys like all the Shrimper stuff I thought it'd be important to post here. Last week Mark Givens posted about Allen being in the hospital for what seems to be a pretty serious operation on his heart. I know a lot of us aren't personally acquainted with him, but whether you listen to Refrigerator or not that band had a pretty profound effect on why we're all at these forums. If you can, put on a record of theirs, put him in your thoughts, or send some positive energy Allen, Dennis, and their family's way.

Thanks and well wishes.
Alex

Oh man. Best wishes to Allen, always one of the nicest dudes around. He would always make sure to say hi any time I went to a Refrigerator show.

Dump - That Summer Feeling (Live 1999 w/Refrigerator)

James McNew aka the bassist from Yo La Tengo aka Dump posted this to his soundcloud today with the comment: "Dump & Refrigerator, "That Summer Feeling" (Richman), recorded live 1999-10-23 in Eugene, Oregon. All love to Callaci fam."

Any new word on how Allen is doing?

Hello,

I read the comments here directly to Allen a couple days ago (I was searching to see if a US News & World Report article he was interviewed for was published yet [it hasn't] and this came up) and he asked me to post an update here.

As I type (Sunday, 5/20/12, 6:56pm) he is scheduled to begin surgery, as a donor heart was found! This will take about 9 hours, if the heart passes further inspection by his doctors at Cedars Sinai.

To back up a bit, his progress this week has been great; he seems to be back to his old self.

Also, he really, really appreciates the comments here, he said they were so nice!

Thank you,
Marc (friend of Allen and his family)

Thanks for updating us, Marc! I'm glad he found a donor. My continued hopes that the surgery goes well!

Yes thank you for the update, Marc. I just heard something was wrong and didn't want to pry any more, as this sort of situation is delicate and personal, but you can always use more well-wishers! I'm real happy that things are going so fast and certainly hope this will be just what he needs to make a full recovery.

fjb made mention on twitter that the heart transplant was a successful one! This is wonderful!
