I can't wait.

Definite:
Xiu Xiu/Dirty Beaches split
Deerhoof/of Montreal split
The OF Tape Vol. 2 vinyl.

If the price is right:
Devo - Live In Seattle 1981
Atmosphere and the Uncluded picture disc.

I'll be buying Death Grips - The Money Store as well, but that's not an exclusive .

I really hate record store day. They say it's to support indie stores, but nearly every RSD release has been on ebay at an insane markup for a week or so now. I mean, I'm still in, because I'd eat catfood for a month before I'd miss out on some sick wax, but I think the whole idea has just gotten a little skewed.

That said:

Regina Spektor Molitva/Stariy Pedjak 7"
Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra Polly/Idioteque 7"
Bonnie Prince Billy Hummingbird 10" LP
Joan Baez Farewell Angelina LP (not really a high priority, but neat, and I love joan)
Preteen Zenith Preteen Zenith LP
Deerhoof / of Montreal split 7"
ABBA Voulez-Vous Extended Dance Remix 12" (this is probably the one I'm the most stoked for, I'm ashamed to say. I mean, come on. An ABBA classic on GLITTER BLUE VINYL®®®®? How can you not love that like a glittery blue waxy child?)

I might try to get in on that white stripes single, too. I'm a fan, but not really so much that I collect thier singles. That said, all their wax is usually pretty collectible (third man vault mono edition of icky thump, anyone?) so if I can get in on one without breaking the bank or screwing over a bigger fan it might be worth my while.

My wallet fucking hates me right now. I've been saving for a while, and I am now essentially flat broke. I can't take inventory at the moment, but I got, among others:

Odd Future
Cursive
Gambino (Heartbeat and Camp)
White Stripes
Atmosphere
Lydia Loveless
Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr
Lana Del Rey
Little Richard
Florence + the Machine
Jimmy Fallon
Lou Reed (Transformer)
Patti Smith
Breakfast Club
Feist/Mastodon
Afrika Bambaataa/MC5
Regina Spektor (Begin to Hope)
Fleetwood Mac
Bruno Mars (my mom is a fan)
The Civil Wars (Billie Jean and the live CD)
... and more

On the used end, I picked up two Mott the Hoople albums and a Zager + Evans single.

well, i did get the new bonnie prince billy 10 inch, i like to think that falls into the 7 percent non-horseshit.

it was a thin year for good stuff though, i will say that.

I'll agree with this.

It's my first RSD in New York and good god! People here are nuts. I went to three record stores about an hour after they all opened, looking for Destroyer and St. Vincent and all were sold out everywhere. I turned up with nothing!
April 22, 2012 12:13AM | Re: Record Store Day
Oh yeah, you've got to get up early to get your records around here. I was in line outside Princeton Record Exchange an hour before they opened and still didn't get the Flaming Lips or White Stripes. But I got Destroyer, mclusky, the Baseball Project and the Stooges' Raw Power reissue, so I'm happy enough.
April 22, 2012 01:03AM | Re: Record Store Day
i managed to get the bonnie prince billy, then also the wake 2 LP set, phish junta deluxe w/ pollock print (total purchase of opportunity) and then arctic monkey, st vincent, beach house, white stripes, flaming lips/mastodon, the bsaeball project, of montreal/deerhoof, blitzen trapper 7 inches and i think that's it.

I got these, as well as some free stuff. My store didn't get the Death Grips album, so I have to wait on that.

My friend Eifion who you met in Manchester last year had me on the lookout for this but the only record shop within a reasonable distance is about 6 feet by 10 feet in area, and had a very limited stock. They'd sold out of the Wedding Present 10" I was after by the time I got there too.

Waited for 2 and a half hours before we even got to look at the vinyl. I only ended up with mclusky, the Baseball Project and the Of Montreal split. No Flaming Lips Heady Fwends or Lullaby Smiths. sad smiley

I've got big plans.Talking BlanketYay, Butts! LOL!

didn't bother this year - there was nothing on the lists (either side of the pond) that i really cared about.

which is a shame.

let's get dressed up in costumes and dance by the bar.

As someone who has never before had the opportunity to experience the magic of Record Store Day, I was just overjoyed to have the experience and bolster my collection, but I do recall previous RSDs having superior stuff.

Damn, I wish I had a Flaming Lips/Mastodon 7", but my store only got one copy and the odds were not ever in my favor. Also regretting not buying that T. Rex set when I had the chance. (Though to be fair, it was pricey.) Alas. Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset. Cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon. Yes, we have no bananas. *sobs*

Did this come with a download card, by the way? Not that it really matters when it comes to buying the thing, just curious.

that reminds me, did anyone get that animal collective thing?
April 25, 2012 10:42PM | Re: Record Store Day (Post your haul.)
Didn't get a single release this year.

I have bids online in for a few of the things that I wanted, but I still can't find that fucking ABBA 12" for less than €50. It was definitely a regional release limited to parts of Europe. Fuck Polar Music with a rusty chainsaw for that.

I should be embarrased that I really want that 12", but I'm not in the least. GILTTER BLUE VINYL, MOFOS.

Dude, it's the extended dance remix of voulez-vous on GILTTER BLUE VINYL. If you're embarrassed for me for appreciating that, then I pity you. I cannot express how unbelievably awesome GLITTER BLUE VINYL is.

And just for the record, I shout GLITTER BLUE VINYL in real life, too.
