What is you listenin' TOOZ

June 13, 2012 03:45AM | Re: What is you listenin' TOOZ
2012 :: Advance Base :: A Shut In's Prayer (sexy red marbled vinyl)
1999 :: various artists :: here 'tis (the original works that inspire eric clapton)

basically, a cheapo compliation of old blues songs that slowhand may have covered at some point. i care not so much for the references to Clapton (much as i love his early years) but any comp tha collates 20 great blues numbers for about 4 pounds, is fine by me.

Don't read the allmusic review. Scott Yanow can suck my balls. I'm only on track three and this album is awesome. Mike should listen to it if he hasn't.

BILL EVANS

NOW
1973-1979 - bill evans - sesjun radio shows (2 discs)

NEXT
2000 - bill evans - the last waltz (box, 8 discs)

Quote

A moving finale to a remarkable career, The Last Waltz was recorded during a nine-night stand at San Francisco's legendary Keystone Korner one week prior to jazz piano icon Bill Evans' death at age 51. With the youthful rhythm team of Marc Johnson and Joe LaBarbera providing telepathic support, Evans turns in some of the most magnificent performances of his 25-year career. Aware that his days were numbered, he played with the creative drive and improvisational intensity with which he had long ago made his mark. This eight-disc set's 65 tracks include takes on 32 different tunes of which nine are Evans originals. Revisiting, reworking, and revitalizing many of his signature pieces, he finds new dimensions to explore in each. The set lists range from standards like "My Foolish Heart," "If You Could See Me Now," "Autumn Leaves," and "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" to the pianist's own classics, "Turn Out the Stars," "Letter to Evan," and "Waltz for Debby." The lengthy solo piano introductions to six different renderings of Miles Davis' "Nardis" are breathtaking in their beauty. This is simply gorgeous music, powerful and moving, a fitting farewell from one of the finest.

Weekend: summer, loads of beer, a great open air festival in town, loads of beautiful and cool people, veggie burgers, more party than I had since half a year, so it was time for some german surf/beat/punk.

Today, in the morning, all that could go wrong went wrong. The beer was still circulating in my head. My girl needed to get back to work four hours by train away. I have moths in my bedroom, even though I cleaned every fucking inch of it and threw away tons of old clothes. So I needed soothing noise.

Tonight it will be tender sadness (as last night, when I couldn't sleep at all):

Fuck insects, fuck lack of sleep, fuck distances between people.

Taste thumbs down

never thought that stuff was as good as his 'solo' works (Live in Europe, & Live in Ireland are both outstanding), but Blister on the Moon, Catfish and It happened before... are all very worthy of mention.

earlier:
Martin Grech :: Open Heart Zoo

now:
a spotify playlist of artists playing green man this year... to get me in the mood.

I think Mike's some kind of music Joda or something. So much music, so much unknown music to me, and so much good and interesting music...

I somehow listen to the same stuff over and over again, even though my record collection is pretty big. During the last year it mostly and almost exclusively was tMG, Harvey Milk and Arvo Pärt, backed up by some Bonnie Billy, Bill Callahan and Alasdair Roberts. Well, well, well...

But since tonight I have a gig, it'll be something by Billy Childish this afternoon.

Ok, preparation for the gig tonight - A selection of the finest tunes from these albums:

As well as this one:

And this one:

And the fucking best neo beat band in the whole fucking world, no kidding:

What a fun afternoon!!!cool smiley

the drumming part way through 'In My Time of Dying' kills me every time.

It's not complex, it just fits so well.

4:04 in that vid. it's subtle, but i fucking love it. great record... if it weren't so, dare i say 'bloated', by its length it would be the best Zep album for sure.

June 26, 2012 05:03PM | Re: What is you listenin' TOOZ
a guy named bonzo drumming for the band led zeppelin being subtle is really fricken amazing, everytime i pay close attention to the drums, which is often, since i've heard these songs many times now.

nothing sassy to say from me. the album felt big and important and good, and on second listen i liked it more than the first listen. not a huge fiona fan, mostly because i'm not drawn to listen to her albums over and over again, though i have checked out all her stuff and will continue to do so. it's safe to say, i'm not a huge fan of tons of stuff though. i'm just not that drawn to listen to the same albums over and over again, except for stuff like loveless and the velvet underground and nico and spiderland and led zeppelin iii.

eta: always contribute!

aeta: can't take some sassay!?!?
