why 5 dollars, may i ask?
I would suggest you're in a minority in that you bother to buy what you love. Most people, in my interwebs experience, take the attitude that d/ling is just the best way to get music, and fuck those who make it getting anything. Knocking the price down wouldn't make a difference for them, but i'll concede that you're right if you can reduce the numbers pirating then it may be easier to manage.Quote
see, i'm just a listener. i listen to it all, and keep none of it. i buy what i love.

as it is, i think the world's a way better place than it used to be. people will buy art because it's good. not because of who the artist is, what they did, or what the single sounds like.
they will listen, they will either like it and buy, or not like it and don't buy.
welcome to thunderdome!

I agree with you, but i think you're in the minority. Yeah, sure, if CDs were cheaper i'd take more risks and i think many people would, but i would still wager that the majority would continue to d/l because it's still cheaper.
People (land of huge generalisations ahoy!) don't seem to care about the fact they're d/ling shit loads of music and not paying for it. It's a victimless crime in a lot of people's eyes and i wonder if the cost argument is trotted out because it's an easy one to try to justify the activity,
I'm speculating, of course i am.
Aren't we all, though?
Also, even though i suspect i know the answer (nothing), what have you loved in the past five years?

to me, the internet is just a giant version of that. a giant library. i will get something to listen to, listen to it, then fucking hit delete on that sumbitch when i don't love it as much as led zeppelin ii

well, aside from the fact there is no god, your point is a good one but again hinges on this point:

it's when people don't hit delete that i think is wrong.
edit: i'm not sure i want to be right either, my man, but i do love a good argument.

i'm gonna get meta now, get down with me.
each library has a different amount of time set for when to return the shit you check out.
one county is two weeks.
another county is a month.
what about borrowing from a friend?
what about borrowing from a bank?
what about...........borrowing from the internet?
at some point in your life, YOU check out. and you take/keep nothing with you.
if you stole a cracker, and the earth explodes, does that cracker not go back to from whence it came?
atoms and energy twirling, twirling towards freedom?
isn't everything you do a form of worship to god?
does god not understand everything?
because i think god does.
and god told me that if cd's were 5 dollars......
