Wither Dust Thou Cast Thine Eyes?

January 10, 2012 10:40PM | Wither Dust Thou Cast Thine Eyes?
New movie/tv thread? I couldn't find one going back three pages so...

I just checked out Network from the library, and it was very wonderful. Killer monologues!

watched Chaplin's City Lights the other day.

tremendous film, in almost every way.

and, for us Brits, the new series of Sherlock has been rather good (last one was a bit weak, but i can forgive that)

let's get dressed up in costumes and dance by the bar.

I've not seen much at all lately. I'd like to see Network. My cousin's making me watch Dexter...we're on the third season now and I still think it's pretty awful, though at least they've stopped first showing, then telling, then voice-overing absolutely everything. It's still annoying the main character's the least likeable. You want me to root for a gormless serial killer? You'll have to try a lot harder than that. We're doing Breaking Bad next, I think.
I saw the film Metropolitan which was a bit lovely, and 2011 Wipe.

This past week I watched the entire first season of Downton Abbey. I will probably watch the second season premiere, which just aired on Sunday in the US, tonight.

YES!!!! I love that show. So good! Took me a little while to get into though. I think mostly because it does have some admitedly soap opera elements but once you suspend your disbelief a little bit, it's fantastic.
I'm also really loving Hell on Wheels. I challenge anyone to find a show out this year with better opening credits. The cinematography for this show is fantastic especially considering it's a tv show and not a movie. Bohanon is an awesome lead character.

I had Jess watch both They Live and UHF this weekend. She told me she had a very conflicted view of local television stations.

I just discovered (or gave in to the peer pressure) workaholics last night. It's on Netflix and my friends were raving so I gave it a shot. I really enjoyed it and watched the first three episodes so far, am looking forward to the rest.

Network is one of the all-time greats. One of the best screenplays, period.

Recently, I've been playing catch-up on 2011. I've still got a great deal left to see (including the aforementioned 13 Assassins), but I'm quite fond of my current top ten.

  1. The Tree of Life
  2. A Separation
  3. Tomboy
  4. Drive
  5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  6. The Skin I Live In
  7. Another Earth
  8. Young Adult
  9. Tyrannosaur
  10. The Arbor

Mercy for the Diaz Brothers!

UHF is the greatest. They Live is good too, but I haven't seen it in a while.

I went to the cinema to see an anniversary screening of Look Around You/FAQ with Popper and Serafinowicz. They made this short video, Intermission for it. It's one of my favourite television shows ever, so it was lovely to get to share it with a whole room full of people who felt the same.

Look Around You is/was brilliant.

Watched the finale of Series 2 Sherlock on Sunday. Brilliant televison, and i'm sure all you Dr Who fans would enjoy this - Moffatt wrote it.

Basically, that was the only thing i watch so there'll be no TV for me for a while!
