Shows you are excited to see in the near future.

November 27, 2011 01:24PM | Shows you are excited to see in the near future.
Hey everyone.

Just curious, what shows are you all going to? What's all cool that's coming to your town?

This past week I made it to three concerts: Architecture in Helsinki (haters gonna hate, plus it was $5), Marketa Irglova solo, and Tinariwen.

Upcoming:

Kimya Dawson
Mickey Hart Band
Book of Right On / Kill the Vultures / Wizards are Real / Gay Witch Abortion
Charlie Parr
My Brightest Diamond
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra
Laura Veirs
Jake Shimabukuro
William Fitzsimmons
Seun Kuti and Egypt 80

Had Gillian Welch (our Prime Minister showed up to this one...they played I Hear Them All/This Land is Your Land) and Rickie Lee Jones this week. I was expecting to prefer RLJ (I loved her before I liked music), but it turned out the reverse. Not that she's not amazing, but I was in row SS and the person in front'uh me had very solid hair. I mostly shut my eyes and just listened.

Got Superchunk/Let's Wrestle next week, rescheduled Jeff Mangum in March, and tMG in April, but that's all that's on the cards. Kinda Bitch Magnet-curious, + End of the Road-curious having skipped it this year. Crossing fingers for Built to Spill & Andrew Jackson Jihad to be back & I might fix the fact I've never seen Half Man Half Biscuit, come 2012.

Big weekend 31 March - 2 April: Spiritualized in Manchester (finally get to see them live) and tMG at The Barbican. Looking forward to these shows will tide me over the 4 lean months inbetween.

i've actually just come out of quite a gig-heavy period, highlights being:

Jeffrey Lewis (support from Seth (of Dufus fame))
Antlers
Allo Darlin' (at Fortuna Pop!'s birthday, which was a great little event)
Kate Rusby (english darling of folk, for those across the pond. always puts on a great show)

and now i've nothing until tMG in April. which i am looking forward to an awful amount. I've possibly got Allo Darlin' again next year in Oxford and i'm sure there'll be a few shows that present themselves between now and the end of the year. Not many bands roll into my town, but i'm close enough to London that shows worth going to become quite possible providing i don't mind a (very) late night return journey!

let's get dressed up in costumes and dance by the bar.

I've got two coming up in the next few weeks here which should be good:
Karkwa (Francophone band from Quebec)
and one of the Yo La Tengo Hannukkah shows

Where'd you see AIH at? I just saw them last week in Oberlin (not having heard much of their stuff before but knowing I'd like it) and man it was so good. They put on a great show. Am really gettin into them at the moment.

Coming up is not much but

Avey Tare & Eric Copeland
maybe hopefully the Max Levine Ensemble
Mal Blum who is super cute and great

Unfortunately I am lacking means of transportation to get to stuff that goes on around here, which is mostly in Cleveland. ugh

I'm only going to the first two (they worked best with my schedule. Heeeey, exam week.), but truckface'll be at all of em. Schlack: I expect you to scrounge up tickets somewhere or other. I'll see you at the Bowery.

I missed out on the Weakerthans, too, and I don't have any other rock shows planned in the near future. I am going to a sweet comedy show with Eugene MIrman, Kristen Schaal and John Mulaney on the 11th, though. And I did go to a bunch of good shows in the last few months, including:

The Rock The Bells festival
Jeff Mangum
The Pillows
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists
Screaming Females (twice!)
Paul F. Tompkins (twice!)

But now I'm going to a different show the night of Left & Leaving!

The Norwegian stage production of Rockeulven (aka. Ma-ma, aka. Rock'n Roll Wolf, aka. Med Grimm Og Gru), which might be my all-time favourite musical. Just hope I can get things sorted with my friends soon so I can order some darn tickets.

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

Just found out I'm working a Laura Marling concert tomorrow. Hopefully that'll be cool. My friend says it's good shit.

She was great when my friend Nigel and I saw her multiple years ago. Have fun!

She and the band had a lot of fun and played a beautiful show. I would recommend seeing her play. I haven't checked out her album at all.

Laura Marling played a swell show tonight even if she was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable being on stage.

The Kimya Dawson show was cancelled :'(
I was looking forward to that more than anything else this month.

My answer stands nonetheless.

I havn't been to too many shows lately, but now I've got tickets to see John K. Samson and the Provinical Band in March, and just today I got tickets to see Ted Leo & the Pharmacists in April (both at the Black Cat in DC).

So, so, stoked.

there's a Cure cover band tonight I'm considering going to see.
