(twas Vivaldi this evening. i feel it's only fair to state that this current classical-binge is as a result of discovering a backroom to my local record store that sells lots and lots of this stuff on wax. I'm having to restrain myself, frankly.)

Wild Flag is wonderful! Currently kicking myself sideways because I didn't see them up there in the Cleveland areas when they came. Shucks and things. I could jam out to "Future Crimes" all day and night.

I'm listening through a lot of the albums on different "Best of 2011" lists lately (from critics and friends alike), working through this list right now (though not in order):

So tonight I have listened to Fucked Up, Le Butcherettes, Wild Flag, Wye Oak, and am soon moving onto tUnE-yArDs.

I think Fucked Up and Wye Oak have been the highlights so far (though I already liked Fucked Up). Oddly these are the two bands that have had the furthest approaches from each other. Le Butcherettes was also very enjoyable, especially if you dig Riot Grrl stuff.

Erik Satie - Piano Works, esp. (of course) the Gymnopédies and the Gnossiennes. I was totally enchanted by them nearly 15 years ago, and at the weekend I heard the 3rd Gnossienne on the radio and totally fell for them again.

While the other pieces on my "Piano Works" CD aren't that beautiful in a classical sense, they are so funny and witty I also recommend them very much.

hey, that's cool - i've been learning to play Gymnopédies No1 for classical guitar these past few weeks. For a relatively slow piece, it's hard to sound right - everything has to be so 'clean'.

i enjoyed it, yeah. A bit busy in places, but overall good - some great samples and a dark feel to lots of it.

i got the link from another forum i use so it may well be doing the rounds.
