tMG Wiki?

July 28, 2011 01:53AM | tMG Wiki?
Forum members have brought up the idea of a tMG Wiki a few times in the past and I've been kicking the idea around in my head. If this is something that we really think would benefit tMG fans, having everything easily accessible, organized, and in one place, I will seriously start this.

The only problem I can see is that I hope I wouldn't be stepping on any toes when it comes to Nall and themountaingoats.net. It is a fantastic resource but a bit outdated.

Thoughts?

I'm all for it. Could be a valuable resource for fans. But who would pay for it? And would JD mind?

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

Wiki's are 100% free, and I don't see how it could be a problem with JD. It'll just be a one-stop site for information, discography, lyrics, etc.

You can add sections, all you'd be doing is diluting the sources of information while pretty much swiping all the content from that site, and I don't know if I'd like people swiping all the tabs without everyones permission.

1840 - Hounds in Sonora, Mexico, invent music, write bogus "History of Music" to preserve anonymity.

and mountaingoats.wikia.com kinda sounds asinine. The only way I'd be in support is if you got a good design team and a reputable domain name. There's already one poorly designed fansite out there we don't need two.

I personally didn't intend to copy the tabs on the Wiki, but put an external link to them on the main page. It was just going to be a quick and user-friendly source for information. Similar to this.

But free means it would be full of spam, yes? Would prefer something like This Might Be A Wiki. Or something exactly like that. It's pretty awesome. And should have a clever name, like... "No Wikis", "Going To Wiki", "Pure Wiki", "Alpha Wiki", or "Mayonnaise". Except, y'know, clever.

Wouldn't mind people using the established tab-wiki either, and turning that into a big thing. No idea what the capabilities are of that when it comes to changing the design, uploading pictures or other (legitimate) media, etc.
