Nothing but the best, as usual! This one is especially catchy and foot-tapping.

This may not be your goal Jamison, but you most likely WILL be famous someday. You already a star on this board and elsewhere. Love the song.

In other news, can someone who has taken a bit more music theory than I have tell me how to name a particular chord. I use it in a song I wrote and based on the fact that the song is in D (actually in C# because I tune a half step down) it should be some variety of a C#- or C#+ (or B#- or B#+ when accounting for the tuning) chord.

It's like this: X40020

I can't find a chord that fits the bill as far as the notes that are in it, but this sound very diminished or augmented... the dissonance resolves nicely into the major key. It could also be some very exotic G (F# in tuning) chord. Any help would be appreciated.

Where's lincolnic when you need him?

Jamison--excellent as always
February 11, 2012 06:00PM | Re: Musicians' corner
It's basically a C#dim, with the extra dissonance of the open D in there. If the D was on top, you could call it a C#dim(b9), but since it's so close to the root you might have to settle for C#dim(add b2). It's not pretty, but it works.

Also hey guys, I never look at this section of the forums.

Here is a set of lyrics that I have not composed music for. And I probably never will. I dunno. Probably not. But if I do, I'll tell you. But I highly doubt that. Take it away, crizzle man of the crazzle croud. Crowd. I mean crown. What?

"Acceleration"

It seems, only yesterday that we were lost
Our vision jumbled in the fog
Of the numb and throbbing illusions
Crossed the traintracks west of Burbank
We stopped awhile to carry our weight
Our hands were burned by the cigarettes

But hey, where did we say we're gonna stay?
I dunno know If I'll ever quite remember
Hey you! You've found another way to betray
Under the thumb of those who prosecute

It's just about time
To hollow your own name
I can't really say what I want to now
I keep changing days today
Lost in the tranquility
Your face it keeps morphing
And it brushes my brain with fear

Cross the median, turn away sharply
Cross the median, turn away sharply

Serene, only tomorrow it seems you were you found
You were buried below the snow
Grounded in what I had to say to you
Erupting inside all of the shadows
This ride, for us it ain't never gonna end
Our destination crashed straight into us

But why, did we feel the need to run today?
When our legs were truly so tired
But c'mon! Only a little further to go
Under our shoulders, our load is heavy

Never again say
Those words that you mean to
Even if your tongue is mad and slippery
A hot lie to some folks
Is better than the cold truth
Our minds keeps cracking
And tossing away the excess

Cross the median, turn away sharply
Cross the median, turn away sharply

Playing my first open mic tonight after spending the past five months writing music. Is it appropriate in this sort of situation to say "aaaaaaaahfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck?
Anyhow I'm playing three originals, "Quadrans Muralis", "Song for Ada", and either "International Bushmeat Crisis" or "Journeyman", not certain which. aaaaaaaahfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck...

Also, any guitarists out there experience a numbing of their left hand after short periods of playing? It happens more when I'm playing barres but some days it happens no matter what. Been playing almost ten years now and the problem's been sporadic throughout.

All the time, man. Numbness, joint pain, aches of the muscles, sporadic finger twitching...it comes with the trade, I believe. Practice as diligently as you can, but rest dilgently as well. Guitar playing is a work out of the hands, and like any sort of phsycial work out, rest time is required to the muscles can repair themselves, and become stronger so as the better deal with the stress of guitar playing.

We're bending and twisting our hands in ways they were never meant to be, that go against all design of the hand itself. When else in life, for practical use, do you bend your hand into a F#7 chord shape for? Now that make that chord shape, without a guitar in hand.

Looks ridiculous, doesn't it?

From personal experience, I'm gonna guess that because of your upcoming concert, you practiced a bit more than usual and have been trying to get everything perfect for your performance. I'd say this is where your hand pain could possibly be stemming from, though I'm just assuming. I completely understand, as such practice is pretty much required before any performance, to help quell the fear of stage fright. You're always gonna feel it! No matter how big you get, or how long you play, or how great you can play...the hands are always going to slighly ache and your stomach is always going to have butterflies vomiting inside of it before a walk on stage.

It all comes with the trade.

Hey thanks, doooooods. Sadly, had to go to work instead of the open mic. Dreams cost money, money costs dreams, you know what Craig says about it. The upshot is that I've now played my songs so many times that I'm more comfortable playing those than covers, so that's a win.

@Redlandsman87- I was thinking along those lines myself. I started switching up what I'm drilling when the numbness starts getting bad and it's helped somewhat, yesterday I realized I've done almost nothing but rhythm work and chording along with my songwriting so I broke out the scales and triad drills. You're right about the ridiculous positions we're putting our hands in, though I learned there's certain utility in getting very proficient in two-finger hammer-ons way back in high school. Come to think of it, my hand went numb after too much of that, too... Boys and girls in America, I tell ya...

Thanks. Mostly gotten puzzled looks and "yeah sounds like a diminished chord or something" when asking about this in RT.

Hey guys! You wanna hear what REALLY makes me happy?

Ok: Last week I finally managed to get my "new" (used) notebook to record with Audacity after more than one year!!! All I needed was an extern audio card (which I have since ages but had fogotten about)! So, first thing I did was write some lyrics to a little tune I had improvised over the last few days, record the tune, sing the lyrics, play some slide guitar on it - first finished AND recorded song since two and a half years!

Well, ok, the song is a bit boring, at least to me, and it's nothing special, but after such a long time without writing one decent song on acoustic guitar (I did write some punkrock and noise stuff for my punkrock band and my noise band, but, you see, nothing personal), this feels like a great success! And I bet there's more where this one came from!

So, world, watch out for SingSallySing again!

Yay!

If anyone's interested, clips from my last live show (which was a month ago). Still plenty of errors. I need more practice / experience / gigs. The sound isn't as good as the last place I played, and the crowd noise is pretty bad until about 2.5 minutes into it.

And good luck, Doc Sanchez!

Hey guys. I got my refund check and thinking of putting money into a tascam dp-008, have you guys toyed with it? After some wheelin and dealin I can get it new for around $150 (and short guitar center a hundred bucks so everybody's happy). I'm trying to save up for a nice audio rig right now because I can't multitrack or dub well right now and it's driving me nuts, but that's going to come sometime in the fall, so I was thinking of getting this to tide me over.
[tascam.com]

Also wanna get a new acoustic down the line, but as of right now I think trying to give my Godin A-6 a very nice tune-up will suffice.

Also, what kind of amps/cabs do you guys use?

i'm fond of a 15 watt tube or 30 watt solid state amp turned all the way up......as opposed to a 100 watt anything turned down to 3.

i have a 20 watt 1965 silvertone 1483 tube amp for recording. was created originally as a bass amp, but sounds like led zeppelin as a guitar amp. it's always turned all the way up.

i also have an orange crush 35 LDX PiX guitar amp. it's small and light with bitchin solid state sound, 35 watts. it's always turned all the way up.

i have a vox ad60, which can be 1, 15, 30, or 60 watts at the flip of a switch. rarely use 60. part tube, part solid state. when set to 30 watts, it's always turned all the way up. i only set to 60 if the band keeps turning up.

MrGlass- I'm using a tascam dp-004 for everything and I love it. I imagine eight tracks being even more useful. It is a battery suck, though, so I recommend sending off for the adapter and buying big memory cards for it. The internal condensers are also very high quality.

If I had the money, I'd hire Red Letter Media to make my next music video.

Though might be I'd be able to afford to hire them to book end a music video I've made myself. Think it would be pretty neat to do an opening and ending in the style of their Half In The Bag review show. Wouldn't require too much on their part, either.

Yeah holy shit the 8 track is amazing. Got some great tracks out of it but y'all are gonna have to wait when the album is done. I'll try to put it up on bandcamp/tape mid-april. I'm really glad how things are turning out. My song in the West Texas comp was the second song I did on the DP-008.

I thankfully already had a 5v adapter. Perks of being a mild hoarder.
