after i'd heard it, i thought "get lonely" could have very well been a prequel or sequel to it.
it has a strange thin sound to it, different sounding than all other mountain goats productions.
the songs have the usual excellent writing, and an uber hardcore mountain goats fan (ie, all yous here) shouldn't go without a listen. once you give birth, it doesn't matter if you like the kid or not, the kid's out there and beautiful regardless.
though, i at first missed the idea that there is an unreleased mountain goats album, i'm positive that there are many more songs and albums that we haven't heard about or will. that's nice.

I KNEW it was a steel bridge, I just KNEW IT! HA! It's one of my favorite songs...OK one of the many I call my favorite. I have been on a photographing-bridges-kick ever since I heard the song. Always feeling like it was a steel bridge but never really knowing. Now I KNOW! How great! THANKS!!!
By the way, this is a terrific thread! Good idea. unfortunately I don't have any relavant photos to share. I live in Elizabethton TN. Although a pretty place probably similar to NC (since we're right on the boarder) still not any of the landmarks that I can tell.
But thanks, Mike, for sharing the Broadway Bridge!!
EDIT: cause a year later, I know now how to fix my broken quotes.

Brilliant gig, really enjoyed it. What's the deal with bootlegging? If it's not frowned upon on these here forums then I shall ask if anyone did indeed record the show... if it is frowned upon i shall edit my post but I really would like to hear it again in all it's technicolour awesome. P.S. Peter's suit was, frankly, awesome

Interestingly enough... I have a caseless Hound Chronicles. Nothing related to Hot Garden Stomp, though. I'd be happy to work something out with you, though!
...And for the record, I've been lurking for a while, I just registered to reply to this.

Hello all!
After lurking in the forum for an ungodly amount of time, this is the thread that finally forces me to come out of hiding and register:
Do any of y'all know how to play Blue Jays and Cardinals?

I don't believe in live albums. they are a blight on most artists' discographies.
Refrigerator's Live Like Linda McCartney being the obvious exception that tests the rule...

Excellent show, indeed. I have a good picture of him holding your head. I was right behind you, and I have plenty of footage of the back of your head.
I've got videos of "Orange Ball of Hate" and "New Monster Avenue" which I'll put on YouTube later today (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=dtrom4). I also got videos of that Israel song and "In The Craters of the Moon", which I suppose I shouldn't put up if they're new songs. I think JD motioned to me to stop recording during "Craters", which made me feel kind of awkward, but who knows.

Re: have we had an in-depth discussion of 'get lonely'?
Get Lonely...
Oh man, I was lonely.
I had just moved out of my parents house, into a new house and in a new area. My room was 9' by 9', just barely bigger than my cube here at work. I had gone to a community college and a community college partnership where I got my degree. I had never been on my own before and I was both excited and nervous. After that first weekend of partying was over, I became very isolated.
Now my bedroom was 9' x 9' which is small, but you have to add to that that I'm 6'4". My room consisted of my twin sized bed, a minifridge that my grandmother had given me and my computer. That was the week that Get Lonely was released, too. I spent every free moment listening to that album, cooped up in my cramped, hot little room. The album really grew on me, I would lie there on my bed, listening to the album on full blast with my speakers attached to the ceiling facing down at me, drinking to keep the harsh reality that I was truely alone blurred.
The Goats came to NYC, I got tickets with some friends to see them at the Bowery. After listening to a lot of bootleg concerts at work, I had worked out that Old Granddad is John's favorite drink. I snuck a half-pint into the show, gave it to the guy working the merch table to give to John. The guy working the table was a really great person. He told us fun stories about the band. Who knew that John sends christmas cards to the guy that owns the Italian restraunt in Bordentown, NJ which is right next to where I grew up? Anyway, did I mention how drunk my friends and I got? We had spent over $400 on gin and had a great spot up front, stage right. Heck, JD and PPH even signed the now empty bottle of Old Granddad for me! After the concert, I plucked my iPod from my pocket and listened to it the whole train ride back to NJ. Then in the car while driving my friends home (and I really was not in a state to do that) and then when I got back to my little room, I blasted the album.
I like to keep a tough guy appearance. It's just easier for me to stay quiet and use my size to intimidate. I'm not one to show my emotions outwardly. I can't even remember crying when my uncle, my hero, died. I sobbed the whole night long into the next day. I cried and cried and then cried some more. I cried because the album is so beautiful, I cried because I felt so alone in the world. I just cried.
This album opened up a part of me that I didn't think was there, I felt so bad because I wasn't able to express my emotions, I felt incomplete. It was a very freeing experience, I didn't feel like I had all the pain of the world bottled up inside me, I felt that I had grown as a person. I would consider this album a "grower" but not in the intended meaning most people use.
Almost a year has gone by since then, and I just found out at the start of September that my best friend had been going out with the girl of my dreams behind my back. This would be the girl that I spent countless nights explaining to him how much I cared for her and carefuly planning out how and when I'd make my move. After I found out that he had betrayed me and used every piece of information I had told him about her to have her fall for him, I dusted off my Get Lonely (as well as Joy Division collection) and just lie in bed, back at my parents house this time, listening to the songs and wondering where everything all went wrong.
I'm very excited to see them again this saturday at the northstar bar in Philly. I've since cut back on the drinking and cut that particular friend out of my life but I intend on trying to bring another bottle of OG down for John and Peter.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I just wanted to thank you John for giving us this, and thank you guys for re-uploading it! Amazing track!
Not particularly interesting, especially since it wasn't even that long ago. Feels like longer though. The only slightly interesting thing is regarding the allergic reaction I mention in the post, I still have no idea what that was. Nothing has mysteriously killed me yet, anyway. If I didn't have a photo of my face weirdly swollen, my parents could easily believe that I made it up.Quote

The first time I heard the Mountain Goats was a few months ago. I was at home because I had had a weird allergic reaction the day before and my parents decided they wouldn't risk sending me to school, so I was killing time on the Internet when I came across a link to the website www.themountaingoatswillcureyourbieberfever.com (I don't think the site exists any more, which is a shame). After I heard No Children there I spent the rest of the day finding out who the Mountain Goats were and listening to some of their songs on youtube.![]()

Hey guys,
I'm a new fan. I mean almost brand new. I discovered the Mountain Goats a few weeks ago and am now hooked. I know that the MG just came to MA on their most recent tour but I was wondering when they were coming again. I know JD likes Boston so I was hoping sometime soon like next year. Any ideas? Thanks. It just about crushed me that I missed them by I few weeks because I didn't become a fan until after they'd played Somerville.
