The Mountain Goats Fans goat adoption thread

September 12, 2010 12:47PM | The Mountain Goats Fans goat adoption thread
It has been a long journey, but here we are:

Colin sent me a check for the funds from the HWNTMG CDs plus a little extra from him:

I then added the $150 to get us to $600, enough for a goat for 2 years.

Today I filled out the online form for the adoption:

For confidentiality's sake am not posting the parts with my address or credit card info, but trust me they were filled out.

Here is the email I sent to Gene Baur about the whole situation and then his response:

And when I get the email confirmation from Farm Sanctuary, I will post that as well.

Sorry this post is so picture heavy but I wanted to people to have proof that this is finally happening. This will get us a goat for 2 years, so there will be one for people to meet, greet, cuddle, kiss and post for pictures with (as long as the goat consents) at Zoop III!

My apologies this took so long, but I am super excited and will use this thread with any updates about this amazing thing we accomplished.

Thank you all,
Danielle

Er uh, I'm not really up on the whole what-it-takes-to-steal-someones-identity-or-hack-into-their-bank-account-thing but for confidentiality's sake, you may wanna fudge out Acows bank account info on the bottom of that check before you go posting it on the whole wide interwebs.

Just say'n.

Also, yay Goat!

the mountain goats fan adoption thread.

adopt your very own mountain goats fan.

only $600.

talk to them about how zopilote machine is way better than all hail west texas.

yell at them for not using the search function properly.

drink lots of alcohol and try to come up with terrific metaphors for life together.

go to taco time and order items only found at taco bell.

Well, if this goat adoption is something we want to keep doing for more than 2 years eventually we will need to do a another fundraiser for the next adoption fee. Who knows what it might be, but you are most certainly welcome to help out and donate then.

Pardon my french, but that's fucking awesome. Those horns are totally badass.

Thanks for pulling through with all this, Danielle. I really appreciate all the work you put into this.

I'll probably never see him in person, but if I do, I'll be sure to bring an apple.

I'd just like to say, I joined the forum a little too late to participate in this project, but this is the kind of thing that makes me proud to be a Mountain Goats fan.

Message from Susie Coston, Farm Sanctuary's shelter manager, wrote me back an email today:

Hi Danielle-
Jerry Lee is an amazing goat and I wish I would have known about the naming thing months ago. This year we took in 14 goats but all were named before I had heard from you. That puts us at 60 goats so new goat rescue is not in the works at this time because of space issues, but that does not mean we will not get a single goat sometime soon. If we do- and he or she is a goat who will live at the farm and not be adopted out, we will use the name Tallahassee! I will remember!
Thanks again for your support and for adopting Jerry Lee- who by the way is really fantastic! He kind of looks like a strange woodland/mini- mountain goat so he was a perfect choice.
Take care! Susie

yay! I guess we will see what happens!

Missed that last update post, but it's awesome news! Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Danielle, I'm so glad this all worked out pretty greatly.

And hey, what's more rockin' in a name than "Jerry Lee?"

We can call him Killer when we visit.

Hey y'all! In a great coincidental moment, I got an email from Susie Coston (Farm Sanctuary's national shelter director) letting me know that they have had some goat babies recently at the NY farm, but they went to forever homes (yay!) so they are waiting till their next goat baby to come to the farm and will then name it Tallahassee.

"The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton" would've been a fun name for a goat.

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

Didn't see this thread until now because I wasn't really on the forums when this posted. We adopted a goat!!!!!!!!!!!! Jerry's beautiful! I'm so happy!!!! I hope that ZOOP III does come around soon so we can all visit him. But even if we're not still paying his room and board next time another ZOOP comes around, we will still be his loving supporters. What an unusual goat! I wonder what kind he is. Susie didn't mention in her letter. He doesn't look like the mountain goats I've seen in pictures. But he's certainly not your every day goat.
ETA: I was dying to know what breed Jerry is so I asked a goat breeders forum. They also say that he's really beautiful and a special little guy. As I suspected, he probably isn't a pure breed so that makes him harder to ID. Everyone said that he had Pygmy in him. The general consensus was Pygmy/mini silky cross. Someone said though that he might be half Fainter. If you don't know what that is, those are the goats that fall over when scared. Can't wait to meet Jerry!!! Not sure if I'll be able to wait until ZOOP to see him.
