Show us your music!

February 02, 2011 01:01AM | Re: Show us your music!
How are the song a day projects coming along guys? I've actually found that writing at least one song a day usually results in writing multiple songs a day.

Random self-absorbed question, go: anyone keen on having me try to "help them out" musically on something? Either as a keyboardist or vocalist. I'm not great, but I thought it could be interesting to try doing a quick li'l long-distance collaboration as a musician/performer and not as the songwriter.

Hey EvilEivind,

If you send me a piano part or some lyrics or anything really that I could add to, I'd be down to collaborate.

Edit: Or if you just shoot me an email, I could send you some lyrics.

This is a very interesting idea. I don't often write stuff myseflf, but I have been enjoying these forum projects, taking someone esle's work and building a new song around the lyrics/basic cord structure.

I recorded a (what could probably be described as a Mountain Goats-style) song a few years ago and have actually been meaning to build it up a bit. It's just got vocals/guitar now, but it would fun to have someone add some more depth to it. Particularly keys, since I can't play the piano.

I think my email address is visible. Hit me up.

Thanks brother, much appreciated. My voice is alright I think, would be a million times better probably if I didn't smoke haha.

More songs on the way, I'm currently in the process of writing and demoing my debut album. Title is tentatively "Random Things, Songs and Streams" and will be a 12 song, solo acoustic concept album of sorts. Expect a final cut by the middle-end of the year, if anyone is interested.

I have no explanation for this.

Here's a brand new 4 track EP called This Is The Year I just finished mixing yesterday: http://staugustinesday.bandcamp.com/album/this-is-the-year

I used my friend's nice recording equipment so it's not just GarageBand this time, haha.

He (Alex Bretoi) was gracious enough to add bass, keys, drums, and backing vocals.

What is this GarageBand of which people speak?

All are welcome, deeply shallow. I still enjoyed your post, despite not totally understanding it and it being an complete non sequitur. Have good drunk times.

Tada! iTunes

What's the best way to get your music on iTunes and all the other digital services (Spotify, Amazon, etc.)? CDBaby charges 40 USD to register a single album, and takes 9% of your sales income. Not sure if that's a reasonable deal or not.

I used TuneCore. You can put up a single for $10 a year or an album for $50. You get to keep 100% of your royalties.

With Reverb Nation you can pay a flat rate of $35 dollars a year. I don't know if there is any additional pricing for having a certain quantity of music up.

Wait... you have to pay yearly to keep your music available through these services? That's going to get expensive.

My friend and I made an improv album over the course of four hours, instead of watching the Super Bowl.
Most of the jokes are either really bad or really nonsensical... album also boasts a pseudo-cover of Short People by Randy Newman, and my friend doing his best imitation of John Darnielle (which is not very good at all). Warning: not for the faint of heart or the tasteful.

Awesome. The title is pretty incredible, too.

Oh, and those pretzels sounded pretty good.
