Show us your music!

November 03, 2010 01:05PM | Re: Show us your music!
I have written my own kind of companion to Tollund Man. It's called Haraldskær Woman, and here it is in its first form. Rudimentary for now, but it'll make the album; perhaps not shinier, but certainly a little different.

Hey guys! I just retired my solo music project "Boy on South" after 2 years and 120 songs. There all on my bandcamp, free for download! Uhh, I look like a bargain bin Andrew Bird and sound like a bargain bin Mgs. I hope you find my stuff enjoyable!

I was all prepared not to like this, but damn, you've got some some mad lyrical chops. Why have you given it up?

I really like it HF, but i echo iatethelotus: why give it up?

Song I did with my Casio VL-Tone (which I got at a yard sale for 2 dollars a while back) in a similar vein as a couple older tMG songs (Blues in Dallas, Wrong!, Pure Intentions, probably another one or two I'm forgetting about). I also think I sound a little bit like the guy from mewithoutYou at a few parts, for some reason.

The lyrics were originally supposed to be a longer, acoustic-oriented song, but I decided that 1. There was nothing to add to the lyrics to make it longer, and 2. I didn't want to just scrap 'em.

I'd love to hear what you guys think of it.

I was on the radio tonight! Two songs, caliclimber and hopefully others on facebook listened in. When they archive it I'll post it here plus two other albums I've been working on are nearing completion.

I suppose this doesn't neccesarily belong here but I'm very excited!

I listened to some of this yesterday at work. I enjoyed it a lot. Once I get my desktop fixed, I will be looking to download your stuff. Thanks for sharing it!

Actually, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind sending me the guitar chords for "Typical"? I'm deeply in love with those lyrics and I'd love to cover it sometime.

Glad I went back for a second listen, because I didn't see your song for Rafa Benitez the first time round; it's my favourite of the bunch you uploaded (although the first time I listened to it I got a very strange image on the fried eggs line, until I remembered that they were sweets!). I don't think you sound like a tMG copycat, although - like me - that might be partly due to the luck of the accent draw!

I've been neglecting bandcamp recently - don't really want to upload anything there until I've got another proper album's worth of stuff together - but here's a little tambourine ditty I recorded today, and here's a song about mental illness which some people appear to have mistaken for a mountain goats cover. Gulp.

THANK YOU EVERYONE. I was worried I might be chased out of here for making a plug my first post, and was armed with concert stubs and lovingly-skewed last.fm stats to prove my need for all things mountain goats. I stopped making music because I don't think boston town is digging it. Maybe I'll come back to it, but until then, I guess I'll focus on other writing. Or watch a lot of Iron Chef (Japanese Version). Either'd suit me fine.

Broomperson-- The chords are B, A and E like any good song about sadness. To get the sound I used, throw a capo up at like, 9 or something, and play it with D, C, G forms, making sure to break your top E a couple days before and realize you have enough money for the train fare to the music shop, or the string you need, but not both.

Thanks again and happy listening! I'm slowly working through everyone else's jams in the thread and my ears are pleased. thumbs down

Awesome, thanks--I also sent you a message on your Bandcamp because I wasn't sure which one you'd answer first and I'm anxious to play this, lol.

But I downloaded all your stuff. Listened to most of it in one sitting. I love that most of the songs are so very short, and yet they say so much. Your guitar playing's nothing to scoff at, either!
I must say, you are the kind of person I would love to make music with.

I don't have anything in the way of an actual track to share but i recorded a demo of a song I just wrote a few days ago. The demo is just acoustic guitar and i fucked with it a little on audacity. This is mainly for my personal use so I don't forget the song and can continue to listen to it/add to it/write vocals but I feel more proud of this so far and therefore wanted to share it.
