Forum Member Recognition?

so the tour will be in full swing soon enough

and I was thinking it would be neat to know if I run into anyone from the forums in real life at a show

so... I have a kind of weird idea... what if we all did something like all tied pieces of green string around our left wrists so we could pick each other out and know if we're sitting right next to someone we're actually possibly talked to before via the internetz? or wrote "tMG" in black pen on the top of our left hands? or "forums" ? or maybe something less odd? I dunno.

I dunno... maybe it is super weird of an idea, but I think it would be neat

I think that's what we have forum buttons for. That being said, if you don't have any buttons, you're welcome to do those things. It's also helpful to let people know in this particular forum (On the Road) that you'll be at shows, and if you see people wearing buttons, introduce yourself. In my experience, forums people tend to be extremely friendly.

...yeah, see, I have no buttons
September 27, 2009 11:42PM | Re: Forum Member Recognition?
i'm always too shy to introduce myself at shows. my brain won't make the "i sort of kind of maybe know you in an internet only, we're possibly e-friends sort of way" to the "hey you're here in the flesh, what's up?" connection.

aww, don't be shy

If you have no forum button you can pretty much ask down the row of people in front, guaranteed at least a few will be from the forums.

No button here either. I will say that if anyone recognizes me, they'd better greet me with a high five. I'm a high-five sort of guy. Even if a complete stranger approaches me with their hand in the air, I will high-five them. Something about it reinvigorates the soul.

I still have a few forum buttons if anyone really wants them.

Check the details on the forum button page.

Being new to a forum is like being the unpopular kid in high school, in that you know some of the major players, but they haven't a clue who you are. So it would make any meetings that much more creepy and awkward.

But I think I might try to tMG hand trick or something. If someone notices then cool, if not...I am at a mountain goats show. So life is good either way grinning smiley

A week on Sunday, not only will I be rocking the forum badges for the first time, I'll also be sporting my newly-acquired, fan-boy-tastic, CCTTST-T...

I will be at the London show (front row, naturally) but I don't know whether I've been around these forums for long enough to be considered a proper member. I like it here and I think I'll stick around, so if anyone wants to talk to me that is cool. I'll be the awkward-looking redhead and maybe I'll use one of the recognition things, maybe not.

Somebody's going to get screwed. It won't be me.
Someday I am going to walk out of here free.

Indeed this is the sleeve of my copy of CCTTST. And the back design is on the back. Not homemade as I don't have a scanner that would deal with the 12" image. I found a local shop that did the whole thing for me (T-shirt & all) for £12, which I was more than happy with, considering the likelihood of a merch table in the UK is pretty slim.

But I thought we were meant to recognise you by the tears?
I might print some badges as I don't know where I put mine, + I'll be a toss-up between an album sticker chart style shirt and Pope-in-Mountain-Goats shirt. I don't have pictures to hand. The descriptions probably don't help.

Oh gosh I know exactly how you feel. I'm on the forums all the time, but never post shit. So as cool as it would be to meet other forum-ers, I just know that I'm not really one of them.

oh the tragedy of it all
