Dream Opener

who are some of your dream opening acts for a tour/ show with the Mountain Goats?

i always felt like Anais Mitchell would make a great fit. her 2010 album Hadestown is one of my all-time favorites, and she just released another great record earlier this year called Young Man in America. who would you like to see on a future tour?

Hadestown is fucking ace and i love Anais... but this tour:

simply needs to happen.

let's get dressed up in costumes and dance by the bar.

man, i agree. THS is one of the best working groups, and there would probably be a bunch of really great surprises on that tour. i don't know if there would be a clearcut opener in that bill though.

Could also just be Craig seeing as he put out a solo album recently. And I have to say that seeing Gone Primitive was pretty much a dream show, having JV open it up. tMG always seem to have great touring partners:
-Bowerbirds
-Vanderslice
-Megafaun
-Final Fantasy (i.e. Owen Pallett of course)
forgetting some I'm sure

But speaking of Anais Mitchell, her friend Erin McKeown would make a fantastic opener. She can play a mean guitar herself and writes great intelligent songs that I think would please most of the crowd, even if it's tMG diehards there early just waiting it out.

Don't forget Kaki King and Shearwater, also great openers!

Oh I would totally love a tour with The Hold Steady, given they're one of my other favourite bands... plus all of the obvious song connections and the guest appearances in shows...

Another dream opener of course would be no opener and just a super long tMG set. But that might be a lot of work and I don't want to tire the poor guys.

Sorry for the delayed response, but yes!

Her first album Distillation is a pretty great sampler of what she can do, I'm also fond of her Cabin Fever broadcasts which usually have some sweet guests and you can watch on her website.

As for songs?
-Blackbirds
-Slung-lo
-Santa Cruz
-We Are More
-La Petit Mort

Hope you like!

There's also an all black/gay Black Flag cover band called Black Fag

I remember reading an article about these all-girl tribute bands, there was the one Mike posted, one called AC/D-she, and a Cheap Trick one that I can't remember.

I have seen both Lez Zepplin and AC/DShe and they are both incredible. The Iron Maidens were here last week but I ended up not going because they were playing Yoshi's (a jazz club) and that's just too weird.

There is also the Miss Fits.
