Benefit to Defeat Amendment One - 4/19 Durham, NC

April 10, 2012 10:24AM | Benefit to Defeat Amendment One - 4/19 Durham, NC
Link to get tickets!

Anybody attending this? I'm super stoked!

Also, I have a question, as I don't know how these benefit shows work.
So, there are $100 "VIP Tickets" available which guarantee that your request will get played, and you also get a meet & greet before the show. On the page to buy tickets it asks for Attendee Information and Guest Information. It will let you put in however many guests you want. Then on the payment page it has a whole schpiel about Amendment One and asks you to give generously, etc., and you can put in any dollar amount you want to get the tickets. I am assuming this means it's OK to bring a guest or two and all get in under the same VIP ticket? Can someone please advise as to the etiquette here as far as "guests" are concerned? Thanks!

You can type in guests and give any amount for the general admission level, too; I'd lean twd thinking they want a separate $100 for each attendee.

I have a similar question— if I bring my young daughter to the show do I need to purchase two tickets? Or can I just put her under "guest"?

I think it depends on how many times she yells Golden Boy...

By the way as someone that was lucky enough to hear JD play Golden Boy twice I have to admit he was right, it's not worth it. Trust your friendly forum-neighbor dollabill when I tell you that requesting Lovefool by the Cardigans will bring you more bang for your buck.

oh well, was worth a shot.

Yeah well, she's totally more of a "Carmen Cicero" fan so that shouldn't be too difficult. smiling smiley

I'm coming up from Charlotte! See y'all there, and to you VIPs: choose wisely for the rest of us. My budget couldn't quite stretch that far what with Jeff Mangum and festivals on the horizon. :\

Haha I just realized the connection to your username and Charlotte. I went there a couple years ago to train some new hires for my job and was confused at Cheer Wine in the soda machines. My co-workers that came down from NJ and I still joke about it.

Anyone get VIP tickets? If so, what did you request? I ended up just getting regular tickets because finances weren't working out and I was afraid the show would sell out. See you all there tonight! grinning smiley

Good god ya'll, that was amazing. Rather than play individual sets, they did it round robin style, with Greg playing some songs, then JD playing some stuff, and then Mac, then repeat. They all ended up playing various parts on each other's songs, which of course was fantastic.

Annnnd we raised over 8k to fight hatred in our state. Well done Durham.

I'll try to list everything JD played, but I'm sure the order will be off because the set was so disjointed. Somebody else can correct me:

Sax Rohmer #1
Attention All Pickpockets
40 Hours - Sarah Dougher Cover
Transjordanian Blues
In Corolla
The Tower - Bruce Dickenson Cover
High Hawk Season
Wild Sage
Dance Music
Suffragette City w/Greg and Mac - Bowie Cover
Fault Lines
No Children
This Year
Everyday People w/Greg and Mac and the VIPs - Sly and the Family Stone Cover

I know the lyrics to Suffragette City by heart, but as soon as they showed that they didn't really know how it goes, my mind totally went blank. And for those of you who weren't there, The Tower cover was one of the greatest things to ever happen in four-dimensional space.

There's a writeup with full setlist here. This was great--so fun when these things happen close to home.

This was definitely awesome!

I was expecting to finally get a you were cool (I mean really, that makes sense, right?) but oh well.

And I know it was recorded. Whether it gets out or not after what JD said, I have no idea.

Did anyone happen to get a recording of this? I know John said the intent was that the show was not be youtubed etc., but i requested two songs even though i couldn't attend and i'd be interested in hearing just those two (swimming through tires and the tower). i'm guessing they'll never be played again. if you could help me out my email is tully1972 at yahoo dot com

thank!

i couldn't stop laughing; hearing john sing:

In the atom circle
Where we break the stars
Hammer into anvil, stuffing out the sun
Witness all the killing
See the birth of Mars
Our religion thrown into the fire

was genuinely hilarious to me. i enjoyed it so much. hopefully he'll bring this cover back for hopsctoch.

there's nothing to explain; he was singing a metal song with an acoustic guitar. humour is subjective and i found it funny.
