If case local folks don't check the UK thread, since we're neither united nor a kingdom.

I'm not a fan of Whelan's, but I will make an exception for this.

I'd no idea. I knew Czaroline and Darkshrines were Irish, but not you, nor toad (agreed on Whelans, but it's a Sunday which should count in its favour).

Were any of you at the previous Dublin (or Sligo) gigs?

I probably wouldn't be able to miss school to go to Dublin for this but the fact that it's over-18s means that at least I wouldn't have been allowed to go anyway... still nice to know that they come to Ireland. :) I hope other Irish people here have fun though! :)

I was 16 at the time and as yet unaware that the Mountain Goats existed.

Although, I believe I read somewhere that the 2002 gig in Dublin was the only time that Idylls of the King was ever played live.

I am from Belfast, now resident in Leeds. I didn't get to any of those gigs. I only saw them for the first time last year in Leeds.

If this was a Saturday night I'd be tempted to go and see friends in Dublin at the same time. It's a shame it's a Sunday!

Leeds/Manchester will have to do!

I'm seventeen and I'm going for sure, even if I don't get in, the tickets aren't that expensive, its definitely worth a try, who knows how long it'll be before they're back?
It's on a Sunday too, so you could just have a sleepy day in school :) I'm off for study leave then

If it was my own choice I'd do that but my parents won't let me (that sounds a bit pathetic... *sigh*). :(

If either of you need a dep-parent (or significantly older brother), I am, alas, old enough. Serious offer.

(Tickets for the first tMG gig here were IRĀ£3.50...)

You know what? Fuck it, Ryanair & hostels exist for a reason and I've never seen Ireland before, so see you there!

Do it!

This hostel is very near the venue and seems good:

I'm 42 years old, have just found out about this and am the most excited I've been about a gig for at least 15 years!

I'm from Belfast myself. CANNOT FRICKIN WAIT FOR THIS!

Maybe one day John'll play in the "occupied six"... and I'm not a *huge* fan of Whelans either... but this will more than do for now!! :-D

Really looking forward to this. As for Whelans - easily the best venue in Dublin. I am delighted it is there.

Get in line, UK - for the next 3 weeks, Dublin is top of the listings!

Wondering if they're going to change anything from the recent US dates...

This is my first time on this board, I registered especially so I could post in this thread. Who from here is actually going to Whelans on Sunday? I'm the only Mountain Goats fan I know and it's lookin' like I'll be heading up alone (in University in Cork but will probably be heading from home near Limerick). It's be great if i could meet up with a few other fans beforehand so I'm not completely lost at my first ever tMG gig.

Me, toad, vertigo, StatusFrustratio (coming from the UK, I hope), Slugger, Duncan_Thaw, ned rierson - none of whom I've met before - + my gf, my brother, 6 or 8 of my mates, a friend's wife from the US, but you won't be lost whatever happens. I hear sales are good, but hopefully not sweatbox-good. Full Whelans can be uncomfortable.

Oh cool, is there any pub in particular people usually go to before a gig there?
