The positive. I really enjoyed the vibe at the venue and thought it was an amazing place. Everyone seemed to take comfort in the fact that we can all just chill and enjoy the show. Standing at the encore was a good time but I don't feel like it is necessary for having a good time or enjoying the show. The band sounded great and I think it adds a lot to the show. Some of the older songs sounded great when they were re-worked. Got a chance to purchase some older albums on vinyl and see a pretty awesome opening band.
Onto the not so great and I understand I am not entitled to anything and fully respect the choices the band made. However I guess I want to put my thoughts out there. I am quite bit disappointed that the set list was about 7 songs shorter than every other show on the tour up to this point. I understand every Mountain Goats show is different in terms of song choice but typically they are the same length. My only thought, coming from my experience in booking shows, is that the set time negotiated for York was shorter (perhaps because it is a smaller venue). I would really be bummed if that decision was made because the crowd did not seem "that into it", which is a thought that crossed my mind. It just kind of was upsetting to drive 2 hours to hear 7/19 songs in a set from a new album and have the set last only an hour and 15 minutes total.
That being said, looking forward to seeing them again and having an entirely different experience.
