January 19, 2011 11:13AM | Strand-Capitol PAC York, PA - 3/26
This venue is about 200 feet from my apartment. In so many ways this is a dream come true. Will update this thread with more info later.

I may or may not end up trying to go to the York show as WELL as the Pittsburgh one...
If I end up going to York, is there any chance I could crash at your place? : P

I think I'm going to go to all 3 Pennsylvania shows. This should be good.

I can't make this show, but I did go to York College. Whenever I smell a paper mill I think of college.

My question is, how often do you go around smelling paper mills? smiling smiley

Maybe. Though I don't know you, are you a creeper?

I'll update this thread a bit later with info on parking, York bars and restaurants, that sorta thing. I'll be having some kind of pre-show get together so i'll keep this thread updated.

I had dibs on that couch first and Philip already knows I'm a creeper! Sadly I won't be making the journey for this tour.

I looked up greyhound tickets from NYC to York and it takes like nine hours, Philip. What the fuck.

I said i'd update this thread, and since the show is in a few days now is as good a time as ever.

Getting to York:

From Baltimore, it's a straight shot up I-83. From Philadelphia you can take the PA turnpike or route 30 the whole way in.

The theater:

Is located at the corner of George St. and Philadelphia St. in York. There are two parking garages on Philadelphia St within walking distance of the theater. The first garage you'll come to is not free on show nights, but very cheap. The second garage (across from the white rose bar and grill) is free.

Where to eat / drink:

Four restaurants are within one block of the show which I will recommend.

Bistro 19: American food, good craft beer on tap. Not too many veggie options.

Esaan Thai: BYOB, awesome thai food. Normally a wait on show nights, but still good.

White Rose Bar & Grill: huge menu, a few nice veggie / seafood options, lots of beer. You'll have no problem finding a table here.

Maewyn's: It's an irish pub and you can figure out goes with that. It's a big space and you shouldn't have trouble finding a table here. Decent beer and liquor here, too.

Also within walking distance is a newer place, La Casa De Tapas, which is (obviously) a small plates restaurant. Gets kind of crowded.

Other stuff:

We've got a pretty big Yelp / Foursquare community, so all of these places are on that. Most of the ones above have good websites with menus, too.

Also probably having some sort of party / after party at our apartment (a huge 200+ year old building) to which everyone is invited. We also may just go out to a bar after.

My email is pgiven [at] gmail.com and my twitter is @pgiven - feel free to follow / email me there. I'll give you my cellphone if you need help finding your way around. Don't hesitate to do any or all of the above. You're like practically family, right?

and now you have!
March 23, 2011 03:19PM | Re: Strand-Capitol PAC York, PA - 3/26
Thanks for the restaurant tips!

Anyone know how the General Admission seating works? How long should I arrive before the show to ensure a decent seat? I think the website states that the lobby opens for an hour prior to doors and I guess at that point everyone kind of just goes in or do they form a line at that point?

Thanks for the help
March 23, 2011 08:52PM | Re: Strand-Capitol PAC York, PA - 3/26
Yup. It will be a near sell-out or a total sell-out. Try and get there early and get in line. You can grab a seat at the front...at some point (probably when John comes out) people will start standing and making their way up front to stand at the foot of the stage. Either way you can still see from any seat in the place. It's an awesome venue.

People of York:

Sorry to say, but I believe it was I, a Philadelphian, who was the first to approach the stage during "No Children." What would have happened had I not been there?

presumably, what would have happened is we would have enjoyed the remainder of the show from the comfort of our seats

Normally the encore brings people up. Hope that wasn't the only take away of the show and your night.

It was an excellent show and setlist.
