Oh the temptation to proffer one of my duplicate organs (kidneys, lungs, eyes) for the filthy lucre needed to see/hear this! Goddammit.

as i was reading that update i kept waiting for him to go psyche! since (i think) he's been a detractor of the bands-playing-whole-albums-live deal, but it just never came. (admittedly this sounds pretty different from a bands-playing-whole-albums-live deal).

is this sold out? i just so happen to be in san francisco from the 14th to the 19th because my girlfriend is presenting some research at a conference. we're driving from BC and were expecting to get in late but i'll definitely put the pedal to the medal if there's a chance of attending this thing.

i slept on it thus far because i thought it was gonna be some noodly wordless guitar score.

I am crying literally crying I have no money and this is a few blocks from my apartment. I'm gonna go hang out in front and hope for magic!

I know somewhere John is walking around, maybe he'll come into where I work and hear me playing TMG and put me on the guest list!

I might have an extra ticket that I hate to see go to waste.

From that article:

Whatever the result, Darnielle says this is a one-and-done type deal and has no plans to do anything with the score after this one live performance.

"I like things that exist and then stop," he says. "So yeah, this will be it."

Incidentally, & this is almost totally irrelevant to the actual function of this thread, Sir Arne's Treasure is currently unavailable for rental on Netflix; there is a 'short wait'; I'd like to believe that you people are responsible for this; or like maybe it's just a really popular film; doubt it.

Dammit guys, now I have to change my netflix queue.

EDIT: Not a joke.

It was extremely good and very interesting. Started with JD on piano. Then he switched to acoustic guitar. For the final 1/2 hour or so, he was joined by an electric guitar (John Vanderslice, I'm assuming), stand -up bass and drums. It was all songs, many of which I didn't recognize, and a few which I did. (and I know the Sweden album fairly well). I'm pretty sure some of the songs were new. Very interesting and enjoyable. It was a bit hard for me to pay attention to both the band and the film, but my the end, I was getting the hang of it. It really built up from very quiet songs on the piano to a climax with the band. It made the ending of the film exciting. At the end, JD mentioned that it was the most nervous he'd been in a long time - he said he's no longer nervous doing tMG songs at all, but this was different.

I was sitting up close. At the end of the show, JD gave some of his handwritten lyrics to the guy sitting next to me, who seemed to be a friend of his. I was tempted to ask him for just one page, but I didn't want to be a pest.
