1. We Shall All Be Healed
2. Sunset Tree
3. Tallahassee
4. Heretic Pride
5.Get Lonely
6.Life of the World to Come

The first three are pretty much tied for most awesome. Heretic Pride is a pretty goddamned good album too. I dislike a few songs on Get Lonely and the ones I do like make me shudder under crushing waves of depression. I couldn't get into LOTWTC at all.

sorry man. i do love WSABH very much, I just currently love the other 11 a little bit more. you have to remember that, in my all time list, ranking 13 would probably be, like, the Beatles' White Album or VU's Loaded or something, so you have to take the number 12 ranking with a grain of salt.

These abbreviations can get so confusing if people use more than two or three per post!

Haha, Mtn. Girl, I was referring more to the confusing typographical color of the abbreviations, but cheat sheets are always welcome. grinning smiley

Who's Joel, by the way?

Edit: Sorry, for some reason read that as FFG. Must've been the F that fooled me. Still curious who Joel is, though.

Threw the Hound Chronicles and Hot Garden Stomp in there because I love them. After my top four things get a bit dicey.

That's Joel Huschle of Wckr Spgt/Furniture Huschle fame. In live shows tMG have covered one Wckr Spgt song, "Francis Mitterrand," and 3 Furniture Huschle songs: "Orange," "Terror Song," and '"Furniture Store". The tMG song "Song for Mark and Joel" = Mark Givens and Joel Huschle, both from Wckr Spgt. John Darnielle played in the band "The Bloody Hawaiians" with him. Also worth noting is that the Congress is John Darnielle and Mark Givens.

He also created the Car-In-Car Disco Product label which released tMG's "Taking The Dative" cassette.

I'm a pretty new to tMG so I don't own everything at the mo. The ones I do have would probably get ranked approximately in this order:

1 The Sunset Tree
2 All Hail West Texas
3 Zopilote Machine
4 Life of the World to Come
5 Heretic Pride

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me some advice about which to buy next, seeing as how I'm a poor student and can't afford to go throwing money around as much as I'd like. Apologies if I should ask this somewhere else, I'm not very good at the internet.

I think a very high consensus of folks around here would suggest Sweden. Some might say Tallahassee as well.

Yes, yes they would. If you happen to be in the UK and near a Fopp jimmyjazz, they're selling it for a fiver.

Thanks for the advice people, I'm thinking along the lines of Sweden or FFG since I've got more 4AD albums than early work at the moment.

There's also the problem of finding somewhere that'll sell them to me. StatusFrustratio, I am in the UK (could you tell that from like 3 posts?!) but nowhere near a Fopp as far as I know.
January 31, 2010 10:55AM | Re: Favourite to least favourite 4AD album
jimmyjazz, I'd recommend Ghana or Bitter Melon Farm. A lot of value for money, if you're looking for something that'll last you a while.

Amazon.co.uk and play.com are decent places to look for copies, especially through resellers.

Oh, and The Extra Glenn's Martial Arts Weekend, to get your high fidelity fix. That, and one of the two above, and you should be set for a few weeks.

jimmyjazz - didn't want to assume, but 'at the mo'! There's only a few that HMV "saved" (list here: [www.foppreturns.com]). Sweden will do anyone well* and sometimes shows up in HMV if you don't want to order online, that's where I found my copy?

*Based on my mum being put off tMG by seeing them, then weaned back on by Sweden.

Thing is they seem to hover on the £40-50 mark through sellers...I ended up getting Ghana and Protein on eBay (38 US$ for the two). (Though there's downloads for them if you don't form sentimental relationships with pieces of shiny plastic in a case.)
