StatusFrustratio - I live in Sheffield and Oxford so none of the Fopps that were saved are near me I'm afraid. Well, not near enough to be practical anyway. And yeah, I do form sentimental relationships with pieces of shiny plastic in a case. I'll keep looking in HMV anyway, although every time I've looked so far they've never had anything other than HP and LotWtc.

I ordered Ghana at play.com in the end, only £10.99 for 31 tracks seems like I can't lose, especially since the ones I've heard on archive.org sound great. Now I just need to wait 1-2 weeks. I appreciate all the advice anyway.

I think that the lack of consensus here is great news for the Mountain Goats.

I haven't listened to We Shall All Be Healed as many times as perhaps it deserves, I'm not really all that familiar with it. Linda Blair and The Pigs are both great songs, though.

Expect an email from play.com in two weeks' time saying they couldn't get hold of Ghana, sorry.

Also I am sometimes near a Fopp that last time I went into had about 10 copies of WSABH and nothing else. If you want me to pick one up for you and post it on, I'd be happy to do that.

Thanks for the offer, but for the £3-4 it'd save me over buying online I don't think it'd be worth your time and effort.

Then iTune one of the OOP EPs. I think they're available there.

There are tons of reasonably priced tMG CDs on play.com and amazon.co.uk though, at least if you live in the UK and don't mind buying through the resellers.

1 We Shall All Be Healed- It's so hard to choose between this and Tallahassee for my #1... But I love so many of these songs and there's just so much that can be done with this album

2. Tallahassee- This was the first one I ever listened to, and this is what got me to love the Mountain Goats. Like I said, this switches between #1 and 2 depending on my mood

3. The Life of the Word to Come- It took me a while to get into this album but it eventually really grew on me. Can't stop listening now.

4. Get Lonely- It actually hurts me to put this so low on the list. I mean, it's not very far below the others, I give them ALL between a 9.5 and a 10 out of ten. It's just SLIGHTLY below the first three. But I love to just close my eyes and listen to this whole album through. It's so cathartic. When you lets yourself fall into the songs and let the music wash over you, it's like an emotional purging, and you feel great when it's all over.

5. The Sunset Tree- Again, SUCH a great album, only a TINY bit below the others. Although I got a bit tired of this year (can you blame me?) it still keeps fresh every time I listen to it. Pale Green Things never fails to get me.

6. Heretic Pride- This is last on my list here, but it's also my least favorite tMG album in general. There are really high points on it, but to me it lacked some of the emotional depth of the other albums. I do really like On The Craters Of The Moon and Heretic Pride (the song). I'm sure someone will be angry about that

If I love Sunset Tree any less these days, it's only because it's such a great album and I've played it so much. I agree with LHTB about Heretic Pride, despite the fact that I'm pretty much obsessed with Autoclave. It should be noted that I love all theses albums though. I don't know if TLOTWTC will be a long standing #1, I just listen to it a lot lately.

How did you not only pick exactly my order for these albums, but also the explanations as well?? Everything from Tallahassee being the first tMG album I listened to to it being painful to put Get Lonely at #4 when it is just so amazing and cathartic when played the whole way through. Even your picks off Heretic Pride are my favorite of the album.

The only reason I put Sunset Tree at 6 is that I find it incredibly difficult to listen to...it simply resonates too, too strongly with me.

For serious. So many songs on that album are SO great. I agree that it has a few weaker ones, but I think the strong ones are among the strongest from the entire tMG catalog.

1. We Shall All Be Healed; I first heard this album while tweaking out. He had me at 'get in the goddam car'. It pulled out my eyes and left me for dead.
2. The Life of the World to Come; wrecked my soul.
3. The Sunset Tree; uneven. Pale Green things devastates.
4. Tallahassee; would that Peacocks were excised like a tumor. Mostly excellent.
5. Heretic Pride; I don't know what to say about it. It's nice.
6. Get Lonely; perfectly lovely, left me cold.
