Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?

August 24, 2009 04:30PM | Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
Yo. So, JD has done a lot of work for Farm Sanctuary. Farm Sanctuary will be doing a bunch of upcoming walks as fundraisers for their organization. I've already signed up to walk in the NYC one ( my donation site ) but was thinking it could be cool to create a tMG team to walk united. Thoughts everyone? The walks are all over, so you could create your own little team wherever you may be.

more info about the walk here

ooohhh danielle, that was what i was hoping to do out here, but i will likely be walking alone. the portland info isn't up yet sadly and because of my work sched, i am unable to organize! so i am hoping that someone gets a pdx walk going. if there isn't a portland one that gets set up i will donate to yours! <3

This is a great idea. It's really odd that Portland doesnt have a walk already scheduled, downright upsetting honestly. Shame I'll be at school and also unable to organize anything. But my school is in NYC so I would be honored to walk as part of a Mountain Goats team there. When I get to campus on monday I'll ask around my tMG friend circle (yes, I am blessed to have one) to see if anyone else would be interested in walking. Will be back with results. Either way, thanks for giving me a heads up about this great cause/event smiling smiley

I'd be down for something like this. I swear, the more I read these boards and lptj the more I inch toward vegetarianism. I've always been a meat-eater because I was brought up to believe that it's natural and good for you, but I'm starting to think of veggie eating as a kind of moral imperative. I don't know, maybe i'm just drinking the koolaid.
August 28, 2009 05:26PM | Re: Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
i feel absolutely great in body and mind since i went veg.
i just passed my five month mark and i was really proud of myself. smiling smiley

i look at my picture of zoop the goat when i need some serious inspiration, even right now i have up my farm sanctuary calendar at work. august is Indigo the Chicken and he looks adorable.

i hope portland gets a walk going soon, i wish i could organize, but it's not in the cards this year, maybe next.
definitely will donate though, if you awesome folks get something going on the east coast.
good luck!
August 28, 2009 05:59PM | Re: Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
I'm not intellectual as many of the folks on john's boards, so all I can do is express my thoughts with limited capacity. However, the way I see it, it's completely laughable that we, as a society, say "it's cool to kill these animals cause they taste good, but not these ones because they're cute and cuddly".

Drawing a line between which animals are socially acceptable to kill and which ones aren't... just don't make any sense to me. Neutrally speaking, if we're allowed to kill chickens and cows, there should be no moral outcry when it comes to killing dogs and cats.

From one standpoint, I can see how there would be nothing wrong with what Michael Vick or any other cruel person did to a dog. There could be a big disparity between animal and human for all I know. It's just weird that our "way" throws you in jail for fighting a few dogs, but makes you a millionaire for slowly, methodologically torturing and killing thousands of stock animals.

Anyway, I'm ranting. Killing is icky bad. That's my bottom line.
August 29, 2009 02:14AM | Re: Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
...did i say that i believe in killing any creature?

dude, i WENT vegetarian, and am in the process of going vegan.

you can rant all you want, but you're the one going "i'm inching but maybe i'm drinking the koolaid"

which is an offensive statement, i think, to those of us who believe strongly in the actions we take every day to live more consciously and compassionately, and give much thought to them, and live every moment in an effort never to drink anyone's fucking koolaid.

feel free to help me express this, veg*ns, if i'm not quite making it clear.

please know that i am not trying to fight on the internet. as anyone who has gotten all up in one of my threads might recall, i am basically a lovin' hippie who doesn't like arguing, but i do like transparency of intention and communication.
i am just not really gettin' yer point.

Hevva I'm pretty sure frankie lee was agreeing with you, there. I think he was talking about societal views on the 'levels' of animals and whatnot, not you (or other vegetarians/vegans) specifically.

Ooer, I might go for the Ann Arbor walk, maybe get some friends involved! Should be a good time. If I do this (things are up in the air right now as I'm moving on Monday so I'm not making any commitments at the moment) then I'll definitely join a tMG team! I'll let you know on Tuesday!

Also now I'm craving fla-vor-ices.

if i was just not understanding, then plz to have clarification!
thanks meghzors!

i think perhaps frankie was just a bit tangential and i have SRS problems following tangential conversation?

perhaps because i am rather tangential myself so i try to keep things linear so's not to have MASS confusion.

also i am so glad that we are now discussing powdered drinks for the proletariat.
fuck the oligarchy.

I... Think what you're doing is great. The only person I commented on was myself, and my reasons and my thoughts. I'm not like, insulting anything or anyone in the subtext of my post. Seriously.

Powedered drink mix is a miracle. just imagine- artificial flavor, color, and corn syrup so cheap, world hunger is eradicated forever. Just mix a little water in there and bam, no more starvation or malaria.

you're a good egg, starling T!
September 18, 2009 11:17AM | Re: Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
g'aww, thanks starling! Someone named Michael just did a huge $55 dollar donation! If you are out there Michael, WOW, thank you so much. Actually, thank you to everyone on here who has donated so far. I owe you all large hugs and high fives!

If anyone else will be walking in NY one on October 4th, give a holler and we'll meet up as walking buddies. I'll be wearing two forum buttons, the orange balls of love and peace, to mark the occasion.
September 18, 2009 01:41PM | Re: Team Mountain Goats for a charity walk?
Not to sound like a ripoff artist, but reading this thread (must have missed it the first time around) inspired me to look up that they're doing one in Boston also! Anyone who wants to come out to the Common and walk with me in a couple weeks (10/3/09) let's do this! Got mine set up, but we could start a group too if folks are up for it. A little behind the 8-ball in terms of time but I figure every little bit helps.

Thanks for the inspiration Danielle! Consider your page donated to thumbs down.

jd - much love. i try my best.

danielle, i am so glad you're getting some donations. as soon as i have a mo' i'll be putting your link on my blog and facebook, if that's okay with you. can't hurt to pimp out your link, and may get you some donations from some friends of mine who are interested in the cause!

SMAS - so glad that you've decided to walk. donated to your cause to start you off. i will also pimp out your link if you like and will make my friends and family choose between the two of your links like a rock em sock em robot sort of deal, though who is red and who is blue we may never know. kirk, spock, you decide amongst yourselves. (my bias: spock is the hot one.)

i am so happy that you guys are doing this. next year if someone doesn't step up to organize portland i am going to try my hardest to do it my damn self. this year with starting the new job it was just not in the cards. you all better take photos for me. smiling smiley perhaps start a little flickr pool so we can see how our tMG teams do?

hint.

love, starling
