Hmm...I'm very very torn on this ebay argument...

I think people have a right to sell this kind of thing on ebay. My record collection owes a decent amount to ebay...

Of course it's a bummer that this ebayer got one at the show and most of us don't have one yet. That sucks. It probably won't stay that way, though.

If you hate people for trying to make a profit, just don't help them do it. I hope it works out so that no one on these boards has to resort to ebay...but maybe we will. It's a bummer.

For now...let's just try to remember that John has always remembered us, and that's not likely to change. I also don't see them selling 1000 records at 4 shows. It's possible...but not likely.

We are the ones who don't slow down at all...

The whole issue of tour only EPs is starting to really get on my nerves. By getting on my nerves is that it's literally throwing me into freaking panic attacks at work.

Friends know that I am suffer from some sort of disorder where I have to be able to buy tickets or music as soon as it's on sale. It's not because I have to be the first to hear it, it's because I fear that they will run out. This has mushroomed out to making sure I get to concerts early. I now get upset at people if I find out that because they are running late I'll only get to the concert 4 hours before doors instead of 5 or 6 hours. I've actually been at venues hours before the band shows up, or as they're unpacking their gear. It's a serious problem I have, and I know it.

I've already put in several phone calls to friends that are going to the last concert this tour but knowing they will be there and willing to buy me a copy does not put my crazy mind to rest. I've even called up Bull City after watching the clock till 11am then for another couple minutes "so I don't seem crazy". Nothing short of John coming on the forum and realizing that I'm that crazy guy that's been standing in line ridiculously early every year for the past 6 years and telling me he's got me covered would make me worry, even then I'd be afraid he'd forget.

What I'm trying to say is that while I love the fact that John keeps putting out music and tries his hardest to get it out to everyone, cause he really does, I don't know if I can handle it much longer. I may need to take a break for a while, I already had to cut back on the forums because it was getting me in trouble at work, especially on days that SM was released or tickets went on sale.

just an update from Bull City Records -

pretty sure i won't see them here until after the tour finishes up. no secret boxes hiding in the corners here yet. you guys will probably know before i even do if/when i'm getting them.

I think anyone that has a problem with this dude selling a rare record on ebay is an idiot. If I had extra money for a second copy I'd throw it up on ebay so that a fan that couldn't make it to the show can pick it up online.

And as far as making a profit, welcome to capitalism. Move if you don't like it. Also, nobody is forcing you to buy the record on ebay.

People are free to express their opinions, if you don't like that you're free to move as well. Trying to beat the artist to the market for his own work just rubs me the wrong way. Clearly that was the point of this, not sharing the music

As far as this goes, my two cents is that I'm a capitalist, but despite the bad press, there is responsibility assumed in any capitalist market. I do believe being part of this community, it's just not right to buy 2 copies as a true fan, and pawn one off on ebay the next. You're really not making that much money, and you're ripping off your own community. It's just irresponsible on a lot of levels, not only because it undermines what the group is doing but it pisses off the guy in charge and makes him less inclined to put as much muscle equity into his distribution efforts as he does. and its such a rich part of the MG culture, why would you sell that out for even a 50 or 60 dollar one time profit. it's just chickenshit.

As for the couple of people that may go to a show just to buy a vinyl and flip it immediately, you know that's going to happen and being upset about it is like being upset about the rainfall. It's just going to happen and you need to just forget about that element. I don't see how buying a ticket, getting to the show, buying the vinyl and then re-selling nets them a ton of net profit if you include value of time/labor - and so i don't think there are many in that category and sadly think its mostly the former which, despite me being a proud capitalist, I think sucks both as a fan and as a proud capitalist.
