Yo ACowKickedMe...when are you going to post these tracks up?

Urgh.

I'm currently going through Hell Week with my fraternity... and we're not allowed back to our dorms where my external hard drive is. That's where the tracks are.

I promise, y'all, I'm going to post this ASAP.

Sorry it's taking so long, though!

it was actually 2 7"s btw and the mastering date was 5/1, I cancelled it this a.m.
This is why you should be nice to everyone.

Don't worry, Flounder! You'll get to it when you get to it.

Any frat that doesn't require you to upload Mountain Goats cover albums to the internet isn't a frat worth being in.

^^^I'm glad somebody said it...

I wasn't trying to be pushy CowKicked, just wondering...

I would love a project with all of our versions of one song, and Going to Georgia seems like a perfect suggestion. Even if you can't really sing (moi) it still works: just yell it!

Are the chords on Nall's site accurate?

G C and D are all you need, you can get fancier with it if you want but the little walkdown/walkups are fantastically easy with the G C D setup.

Isn't that what this is?

Right. Just confirming that, since someone above suggested otherwise. I WANT TO BLINDLY FOLLOW THE PLAN RIGHT OVER THE CLIFF!!

(Can't wait to get home tonight to start working on my Going to Georgia with full symphony orchestra and steel drum band.)

Wait...is this already over? I just went back to the beginning of the thread and saw deadlines in October. I'd hate if I missed it, but se al vie (or however you spell that!)

Yeah it's over, I submitted couple of days late myself...

You should still do it though!

I was gonna do one with my mandolin. Maybe I'll just post it here once done.

Is the finished product available to us, or just to John? I'm cool with either!

I've got a mandolin/banjo version, too! Though I do little more than strum it like a guitar. I'd like to hear what a real mandolin version sounds like.

acow indicated that he'd post all the tracks online sometime.

Well mine would be strumming too, since I can't multi-track. I'd love to find someone I could play with so I could just do mandolin fills and solos

Actually, I think I know just enough about Audacity to do that. Hmmm....

I use Audacity, but no metronome. I just sing/play the guitar once through, then listen to it on headphones while recoding the banjo, then mandolin, etc.
November 13, 2008 01:24PM | Re: JOHN, FEEL FREE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW!!!!!
^^^yeah that's what I do also. I didn't know if foolishsage had Audacity or anything similar.

Some people say my life demonstrates I have way too much audacity.

I used to do that, then I got a new computer. Now, everything I record is at such a low level I have to amplify it in Audacity, which screws up any possibility of multi-tracking. So now I only use it for quick single-track recordings.

But if anyone knows what could be wrong I'd appreciate the help. I've always just thought it was a shitty sound card.
November 13, 2008 04:58PM | Re: JOHN, FEEL FREE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW!!!!!
Yeah, I have to turn up each of the tracks to get decent audio levels (and then I get a lot of static and background noise because I use a really cheap (free) microphone).

But as I've said before, fans of (early) Mountain Goats shouldn't be easily turned off by bad sound quality.
November 13, 2008 05:02PM | Re: JOHN, FEEL FREE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW!!!!!
Your problem could be many things, but you might be able to get better levels if you select "Microphone Boost" from within the Volume Control app in Windows.

You have to have "Advanced Controls" enabled, and and "Advanced" button will appear under the Microphone level.

Ahh, that did the trick. Thanks, you obviously know a lot about this stuff. Still sounds kinda off but it's probably because I recorded the second track without headphones. I'll screw around with it.

Any new news on when it will be made available?

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

the exact moment that someone figures out how to spell "acowkickedme" with greek letters.

November 17, 2008 09:31PM | Re: JOHN, FEEL FREE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW!!!!!
not sure how correct this is, my greek is pretty awful.

μια αγελάδα με κλώτσησε

that's a literal translation, i'm pretty sure.

ακαυκικεδμη
that may or may not be the closest to letter to letter that you'll get on here. then again, as i said, my greek is not what it should be.

edit: well, i tried to post it all up here in greek but the forum just didn't understand.

sorry :-)

Okay, so here you go, guys, the final project.

I'd like to thank everyone who submitted their work, and an extra special thank you to Mtn. Girl, for the really nice front cover.
