For the record, I'm totally cool with just mp3s. If it comes by CD, I'll probably just rip it and immediately lose the disc.

Either way, thanks, acowkickedme, for organizing this.
November 06, 2008 10:51PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Well I only had a couple of hours so I threw this together...used the same drums that I made for my last track (yeah I'm lazy but don't have any free time either! and i work pretty slow) I'm going to try to hop on this again and finish it up ASAP. Add some bass, chop up the rest of the song, refine it & mix it down etc...

very ruff draft

normally i don't post halfway finished stuff, but i thought what the hey...

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but I've already finished this project... I'll be giving it to John in Philly tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who submitted... there's 11 tracks, with a pretty badass front cover 'shopped up by Mtn. Girl, and a fun back cover I made in paint earlier today tongue sticking out smiley

When I get back to campus on Monday, I'll bundle up an .mp3 version + both covers for everyone on the forums.

People who submitted, I'll be hitting you up in a few days with details on getting you a physical copy, if I can manage that.

This was a fun project, I hope JD gets a kick out of it.

it was actually 2 7"s btw and the mastering date was 5/1, I cancelled it this a.m.
This is why you should be nice to everyone.

No bubbles have been burst, if you read back you will see that I'm well aware of my lateness.

Now the question is, should I finish the remix or not? Is it really bad or does it show promise?

Let's just say tMG aren't the best sample source for hip hop, but I think I can do it justice with another sitdown.

Yea, tkurata, you definitely need to finish it.

Play myself some music.

Cool, thanks guys I will post it up when it's done.

I wanted to do a Mountain Goats remix project a while back but found out that it's really hard...JD isn't exactly playing his songs to a metronome, so you have to chop every bar or two to get the timing right.

Anyway I had fun and I think it will turn out pretty nice!

EDIT: lol changed "is" to "isn't", whoops...

I can't wait to hear the finished product, even if I was so wracked with my own inadequacy that I couldn't finish mine. If we do another one of these sometime with a song I can play, I'll be on it.
November 07, 2008 07:21PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
^^^thanks

but wait GTG is only 3 chords, you should be able to pick that up. you know where to find the chords eh? anyway you can play this song with just G - C - D.

I wonder if that "love pump" guy gave the CD to John. I'll be waiting to hear what everyone came up with. Who had the craziest concept?

November 08, 2008 02:25AM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
haha, it isn't the chords that are the problem for me, it's more the fact that i can't come up with any other way to do the spoken parts of it that's satisfactory to me, and a cover with the same exact inflection just doesn't seem right to me. also i suck at strumming, having only taught myself guitar and never actually learning anything! grinning smiley

Hey everyone.

Gave John the CD at the end of the show today... just handed it to him as he did his final bows, because I knew the TLA people would kick us out before we had the chance to talk to him.

When I get back to school I'll get an mp3 bundle together.

Now I'm going to be glued to this thread until John tells us how much he liked each of our versions. (insert whichever smiley is the creepiest)

Thanks Dan, checker-outer of Mayer Hawthorne! smiling smiley

I chopped and arranged the rest of it, and it's about 80% done, I will post it up after the weekend.

Hey acowkickedme, I recommend drop.io for sharing those mp3s, probably the best mp3 sharing site.

Hope it can get posted tomorrow!

Also, might be able to give the compilation a "semi-permanent home" on my webhost if it would be desired. But having it posted and available from a few different sources might be good.

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

Ok I'll try again:

While you guys are waiting for the mp3s to get posted...check out my finished GTG remix. I might go back and add keys or bass or maybe new drums at some point but i'm fairly satisfied as it is. play it loud!

actually i kinda preferred the 1st version. i thought it was more stripped down and seemed to be a more organic extension of the original.

but that's just my opinion.
