awesome! Thanks for extending the deadline, I'm kind of going crazy trying to make mine good enough to submit.

EDIT: and by good enough to submit I want for when John listens to the CD have him look at the back cause he needs to know "who the fuck did THAT???" smiling smiley

I've got big plans.Talking BlanketYay, Butts! LOL!

I am stoked guys, and I will definitely buy them.

Acow--you consider selling them on the forums, shipping money + some extra maybe for Farm Sanctuary or sumfin. I'd be down for paying total like 10 to 15 for this. But maybe that's just me.
October 06, 2008 04:59PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
If we could extend that deadline a little more (say, a month or two) me and my band would come up with a version, too.

Hum, didn't see this 'til now. Will try doing a version. But, chords! The ones at themountaingoats.net seem a bit off to me - at least when playing on piano/keyboard. Sounds very off when playing up to the album version.

... though A - E - D version matches the Atom version perfectly!

Whatever chords you play will match the version you record. Make your own version with whatever chords you want. Have fun with it. I didn't hear a mandolin part in the album version, but that didn't stop me.
October 06, 2008 06:47PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Exactly what dtrom said. Y'all don't need to follow the chords JD uses (which, btw, the ones on tmg.net fit all live versions perfectly).

so, yeah, make it your own!

it was actually 2 7"s btw and the mastering date was 5/1, I cancelled it this a.m.
This is why you should be nice to everyone.

Hi all...delurking here; tMG fan since early 2007 and occasional forum-reader, but never quite gutsy enough to post before. So...hi!

acow, you are brilliant and I would love to participate in this project! One question (I didn't see this addressed on the earlier thread pages): when we e-mail you our songs, do you want the sender's forum name associated with the track or IRL name? Thanks!
October 07, 2008 12:37PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
oh, beatrice you make a good point.

when you send the file, include the name you want to appear on the album.

I haven't finished mine... not even close unfortunately. The problem that I am seeing, is that the best part of the song is it's simplicity and there really is no room to cover it or add personal touches, as its just perfect.

That and my recording equipment is packed away for moving.
October 10, 2008 08:39AM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Ahem. So, this idea is obviously exciting enough to draw lurkers out of the shadows, and it's done the same to me. Hooray creepy new people!

So, would there be any room for me on this project, despite the fact that this is my first post? If I promised to do a really freaked out free-jazz version or brutal death metal version or something...? What about if I make you a pie?
October 10, 2008 09:58AM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
I've done two versions so far. One on piano, one on Casio. Both with a fair share of stumbling, but that's the charm of DIY lo-fi indie folk rock, yes?

Anyway, not sure which version I should send in. Just to make sure: there's only one song/version per member, right?

And welcome, creepy new person! Creepy less-new person here, at your service. I'm guessing everyone's invited, even if new.

I have been hemming and hawing about this project. I think utlimately it is a great idea and high time something like this occurred. However, I remainded uncertain about an entire album worth of Going to Georgia ( a good song, but certainly not the ONLY good one and after years of releases not the best).
The Atom one was, I felt, more than enough reason not to suffer the cover again.

However, after seeing that Netzhaut is on board, and that a majority of people seem to be taking this much more seriously, count me as one of the people covering.

thank god you are, teachcarlson...because...

I'M OUT

couldn't get it right, after 40 times i gave up.

got a pretty good international small arms traffic blues....didn't want to derail your project with it.

can't wait to hear it though. very envious you people that can get something done when you want to! seems i can only get something done when i don't want to!

I was working pretty ferociously on Genesis...but found out that this really was a project of just Going to Georgia ditched it for a future time.
October 13, 2008 09:56PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Okay, I fixed up my version. I added more mandolin (you can never have too much mandolin), and I just got my bass fixed, so I added a bass part. It could definitely be better, but I think it's pretty great.

So in addition to vox & guitar, I've got 2 mandolin tracks, banjo, and bass. That is more instruments than I really know how to play.

I should have called it :Goin' Down South to Georgia" or "The Devil is Going to Georgia."
October 14, 2008 12:25AM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
I think that the people voicing their apprehension about the concept of an entire cover album dedicated to Going to Georgia are missing the point. Or perhaps I am missing the point! Either way, I think the idea is pretty amusing; it seems to be mocking the inevitable truth that any tMG cover album is bound to have three or more Going to Georgias if it isn't properly managed. The next one should be nothing but No Children, and then This Year after that.

I'd like to contribute, but I doubt I'll find the time to make any recordings before the deadline. However, if you need anything more in terms of album art, I'd love to draw something for it.

acow, i've got to bow out man. I've spent every weeknight for like 4 solid weeks playing the song over and over again and can't seem to come up with anything I like better then the original.

I don't think anyone of us will be delivering covers actually better than the original or which we like more than the original.

Mine'll be there soon. I'm being a bit silly with it, but in the next few days definitely. My bass is doing weird things and not staying in tune, and strings cost $50, so I might have some weird out-of-tuneyness in it by accident.
