JOHN, FEEL FREE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW!!!!!

October 01, 2008 02:35PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Yeah, I've been lurking for a while too but only cause my last account wouldn't work. I never got the confirmation email so I had to sign up for a new one.. Anyways,

I'll be submitting one soon. I might still add something to it or I might rerecord it completely. Probably not though, I'm lazy.
October 01, 2008 02:36PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
Sweet. We can definitely do that. I presume that we are allowed to do whatever style we like?

I am more or less asking if there are any solid guidelines or is the song open to interpretation.
October 01, 2008 03:26PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
no guidelines except it's gotta be going to georgia

I will submit soon as my cold goes away. I'm not in good voice at the moment at all.
October 01, 2008 04:07PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!

am i the only one who thinks it would be really annoying to listen to different versions of the same song over and over? I think a better idea would be to take an album, ZM or tCG for instance, and cover one song each.
October 01, 2008 04:14PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
I want to hear a mike cover ala shatner..

Going to....

Georg-ia!

No, not really but then I've been known to listen to the same version of the same Lloyd Cole song about 70 times in one sitting, so I'm not sure I'm allowed an opinion...

As long as we all do it differently, then it should be fine... personally, I'm going to do it using the original basic chords and progresion, but with a full band (Bass, Piano, Drums, 2 Electric Guitars), so I'm going the more traditional rock route...

DIBS.

BTW, I found the Atom version offensive. I didn't feel it had the heart and was trying to be upbeat and whimsical when the real version is one of the most heartfelt songs I have ever heard.

yeah...i guess i'd be more inclined to listen to say...a dozen covers of seed song or blues in dallas. some songs just aren't meant to be covered.

what was the format of quetzalcoatl gets a tapedeck? just random covers?
October 01, 2008 04:23PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
atom is just a goofball, that's kind of his schtick. haha
October 01, 2008 04:24PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
not to mention that i can't imagine not cringing at somebody saying into the mic "the most remarkable thing coming home to you...etc" stress for stress.

I was thinking about the synth thing actually, I learned the chords last night (before reading your post!) and figured out how to play a keyboard. But I'm not sure how I feel about it now that I've tooled around with the keyboard. It's going to take some serious thought.

Alright, I've got a blue-grassy version coming up. I just need to tweak it/rerecord it.
October 04, 2008 07:38PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
this sounds cool.. I might've contributed to it if I had read this a little earlier... I still love the other idea about making one song and people adding their musicality/tracks one by one. (I play the violin).
ok. goodluck, I want one of these when it's ready!
October 04, 2008 07:40PM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
I was gonna do that but I left my mandolin at home. Lap steel too. Instead I opted for the Casio version.

EDIT: emailed it.

Alright, I have four tracks right now.

I was thinking, I can extend the date that I want them to October 31st. I was just going to mail the project to JD, but I figured why not just give it to him at the Philly show? So I'm gonna do that.

So, two-headed girl, you've still got plenty of time. Go ahead and submit one!

As for copies for the rest of you, when you submit your song, include your mailing address and I'll have copies mailed out in early November.

Hey.
I love the idea of this project! I will contribute a version myself, one of my best mates will too and I might try and get my house mates involved to do their own versions. Plus... I should be able to convince my band mates in my prog/tech/death metal band to cover it too. Should be a laugh!

This will be the best CD ever!

If this turns out well, we should start a collection of these cds with many people doing their own versions of one song.

I'm new to the board... so Hi from Perth, Western Australia.
October 06, 2008 02:42AM | Re: JOHN DON'T READ THIS THREAD! REALLY!
quick update, y'all.

Mtn. Girl has submitted the cover for this project, and will be making the title, too.

both of these will be kept secret until you receive your copy.

also, there will be copies available to people who don't submit, but i'll just ask for a couple bucks to cover shipping. there'll be more on all that later, though.
