How did you know that tossing things aside in disgust is a hobby of mine?

Vomit into a book. Read.

Congrats, you have successfully simulated the experience of reading an Ayn Rand novel.

There is desperation and there is noise.
February 24, 2007 06:07AM | Re: Hail and Farewell
aw, is ayn rand THAT bad?
February 24, 2007 06:10AM | Re: Hail and Farewell
Not really, but I enjoy hyperbole.

Thank god that Ayn Rand worship is limited to the US.

John, can we have a song cycle about the Alpha couple's run in with Ayn Rand? I see a cocktail party and Rand leaving it in tears at being out-assholed, with an underlying comparison with Hannibal's Alpine campaign (obvious to those who understand the song titles, rendered as they are in Punic).

To be honest this thread is the first time I've heard of her.

I seriously believe that a person not only gains nothing but loses a considerable amount by reading Ayn Rand.

Agreed. However I did like Anthem. Probably because it's only 100 pages with large type.

Man...what the hell did I start?

I haven't checked back in for a while, and here I find this...firestorm.

I guess I just wanted sneak in and say I'm sorry for "sending you over the handlebars" John, I'd just never heard one way or another what to make of all this (hafg, not Ayn Rand). Hearing that you really do feel touchy about the subject makes me feel more than a little guilty about bringing it up in the first place. Honestly though, I think that the main reason it's floating around is simply curiosity. I just trashed my copy, and I have no regrets about doing so. Is it because I've already heard it? Maybe, but knowing your thoughts on the matter, I wouldn't want anyone else to be able to get it from me.

I guess what I'm saying to anyone reading this thread now, or in the future who thought the exact same way as we all did when we were up late at night looking for it....

It was to be buried.

We're graverobbers,

and now we know it.

and John. Just a request...Please. Stop destroying recordings...

please? I swear I won't come digging for them, and I'll stand against those who do...seriously

The tape of HAFG is mastered too fast, by the way - the voice and guitar on it are about a full tone higher than they were actually performed. I wasn't gonna ruin people's enjoyment of it by telling y'all this, but if people insist on "it's not what you'd prefer, it's my right to your private stuff," then they can live with the truth of the matter. Word!

john only says this because if you try to master the album slower, you hear the backward voices, and when you listen to the backward voices forwards, they tell ya what it's all about. en, what are people gettin so excited about burnt AHWT demos? he released the demos and burnt the album! fuckin yeah!

I think the couple above the tracklisting are the Sweden couple.

NOT one for reviving dead threads BUT
This supposedly unreleased album is on my computer, and claims to have been so since 2005.

I haven't even been a fan that long.

What's going on?

I just turned up and read all 5 pages straight off. That was... exhilarating..

FTR, done by Russell Hill.

leaks. sounds so insidious. of course, senor d. did not release this onto the internet and then say whoops, shouldna done that (and it being on the internet makes it public, but not public property). it was obviously also in the hands of someone that either leaked it accidentally, or purposely. and this is the thing that makes me feel badly, because this person probably feels real rotten, or should. and i hate when someone has good intentions, or accidentally breaks your copy of sweden in half, and then has to feel bad, or should feel bad and doesn't. you know? and ayn rand haters can sit on my lap. i've got the definition of art for you to experience.

Well this forum has long been dead, but what the hell.

When I first discovered John's mu sic (This Year was the first song I heard), I immediately went to limewire and clicked on anything legitimate I could find. Somehow I ended up downloading the song Hello, Old Rabbit and it became one of my more treasured songs. As I realized how awesome John was, I decided to download a "complete discography"(don't judge me because I stole the song songs because as soon as I come into some money I will purchase every Mountain Goats album that I can find) and I decided to let it replace all my old songs figuring it wouldn't change anything except for making the clean up easier. Well, I was shocked when I ended up without some of my favorite songs. How naive I was!
I was also surprised to find that a more acoustic version of Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod was no longer. I soon missed it--I think it goes better with the Sunset Tree as a whole. Since I think this is kosher and I apologize if it's not: does anyone know where I might be reunited with this alternate version of HTCtT?

Ok back to the subject. Its not my fault that I am now desperately trying to find Hello, Old Rabbit--I had no idea it wasn't intended to be listened to. But now, having read this whole thread, I'm kind of at a moral dilemma. I mean I've already heard it, so what's the harm in hearing it again?

PS I read Anthem a while back. I remember the reading experience fondly. I was really into it--zipping through--and I came upon the last 20 pages and its nothing but a giant rant about why socialism is bad. I think a little bit of subtlety could have gone a long way in my final reaction to the book.

There are definitely live versions of Hello, Old Rabbit out there. I know of at least 3. Search soulseek or some such place and you shall find. Or look through the forums for the DC++ thread. You can probably find it there. Other than let, let's not talk about H&FG.

apologies if that sounded harsh. but it's a delicate subject. please just leave it dead?

that said, plenty of other threads to post in, welcome to the forums!

If I hear one more "don't judge me, as soon as i come into some money..." i'll scream. You have a computer and an internet connection, you are better off than 95% of the world's populace. In other words, WELCOME!
