Old Live Recordings

April 08, 2008 07:44PM | Re: Old Live Recordings
You're very welcome smiling smiley
Here's another good one, I figure I'll just scour my computers for any stray mp3s that could be of interest and upload them. This was originally postedby Unoriginal42 in this thread and can now be found on the aforementioned webpage for posterity.

I (re) present The Doll Song, enjoy!

I also converted the unreleased songs from that show that got posted from .flac to .mp3

Too slow! See below.

Thanks! I love Tulsa Imperative; been looking for a recording since I heard it last year in NYC.

Because Sendspace and their ilk tend to be unkind to those who are not around to grab them immediately (and because google pages is free and forever), I've taken the liberty of sticking the individual songs posted in this thread up on a more permanent host.

Rockin' Rockin' Pet Store
Rockin' Rockin' Twilight of the Gods
Going to Some Damned English City
Going to Dade County
Tulsa Imperative

Edit: I even made a page for such recordings, hooray for the internet!

Sir You are a gentleman and a (mountain goats) scholar. ps does your name come from the anicents?

This seriously might be my favorite song ever.

Argive is one of the interchangeable names used for the "Greek" side in the Trojan War (the others being Achaeans and Danaans). So in addition to being a big nerd about tMG, I am also a big nerd about stuff like Greek mythology

Anyway, I suppose I'll keep updating the page as I find material (unless of course John would rather that I not).

On that note, if anybody had any unreleased alpha songs lying around, I'd love to hear em!

Please be careful with this, some folks who share shows do not want it converted and shared in .mp3. I can't speak to this show specifically.

Thank you so much for hosting all of these songs!

Oh, I wasn't aware of that actually, although I guess it makes sense if one considers the recording as a complete work. I've never been involved in any kind of recording scene, since archive.org was basically my first exposure to live recordings. I never understood using a big lossless format like flac for what is usually audience recordings, but I of course would not want to disrespect people who are awesome enough to get these recordings to us in the first place. I'll be careful about that from now on. As for the files from that show, I can't really tell from the info.txt whether .mp3 sampling is ok (although carefully reading that thing does give me a whole new level of respect for how much work goes into the whole package). To be on the safe side, I'll take 'em down until I find out one way or another, don't really want to cause anybody any grief with my little website.

Thanks for giving me the heads up though, I'd have hated to have continued merrily onward in ignorance until that fateful day when I would be bombarded by angry e-mails from angry recorders smiling smiley

Holy shit, thank you so much to whoever (I'm too lazy to look through) put up Rockin' Rockin' Pet Store. So good. Okay, I'm listening to the others I didn't have now. Will probably post again in 5.

Thanks, I've wanted to hear this song specifically for quite a while! I've added it to the collection, as well as a cover of a Tanita Tickerum song.

Is this in reference to the Essen show? If so, I have an answer to the question and I will share it.
April 10, 2008 02:25PM | Re: Old Live Recordings
Yeah, I had converted three songs from the Essen show to mp3 and shared them on the page. The info.txt only said "see comments" in the section regarding mp3 sampling, which was ambiguous enough for me to take 'em down. Any additional information would be appreciated for sure smiling smiley

Interested in either or both?

Also, here: [www.archive.org]
April 10, 2008 06:25PM | Re: Old Live Recordings
First off, Big up to the taper of the Essen show! hip hip...

I sent the taper a note asking about the sharing of the show as mp3s. I just assume that when a show is made public that some people are going to ask, and also I wanted to know if it would be cool having the set in the archives.

Specifically I was told that "people can do whatever they want do with my recordings...with indication of all the important information about the recording: source, taper, generation, transfer and so on."

Also, and regarding the archive site the taper is happy to have it added, and also understands and agrees that having the files made available as mp3s will make the set more accessible to some. All that is asked is that the taper be made aware of when the transfer is made.

So, with that said, would anyone like to do the honors and upload the show and text to archive.org? I've never run that maze, though someone has posted one of my recordings there(albeit without my permission). Sorry for the sour grapes.

Is someone interested in adding the Essen show to archive? Also, I have some other personal 06/07 recordings(all unfinished at this point but not currently on archive from anyone else) that I would eventually like posted if someone would be interested in doing so on my behalf? Or I may try to figure it out over the Summer. I believe that my email is public here, if you want to contact me. Thanks.

So I imagine making requests on one's first post is kinda bad form, but a link to Going to/through Pomona (live or in any form) would be really great.
