Handmade Goats

June 20, 2012 05:07PM | Handmade Goats
A year or two ago I learned how to crochet and when I have free time or need a birthday present for someone I like to pick weird stuff to crochet as a project (see here: [goneinaminute.tumblr.com] Also, follow me if you want, don't have much stuff up there yet but I'm working on it smiling smiley ). So I decided in honour of tMG I would try to crochet three amigurumi goats (amigurumi being a type of cute crochet stuffed toys), one for each band member. If I ever have the unbelievable luck to actually meet any of them then I'll give them to them as a present.

As of yet I haven't started making them, still trying to figure out how I'm going to do it, but I wanted to ask everyone's opinions on how I could make the goats recognisably look like the band? I'll probably use whatever pattern I'm using for all three of them so they'll be mostly identical but I think it would be cool to have some sort of defining feature on each of them. Like I could make little glasses out of wire or something for whichever goat is meant to be JD. Any suggestions?

Some kind of additional suit jacket for PPH - coolest motherfucker in the world.

Failing that, their hairstyles are pretty distinctive, and JD wears glasses all the time now (?), so that's something.

eta: this is a great idea, btw.

let's get dressed up in costumes and dance by the bar.

I vote the the "Get Lonely"-era hair swoop for JD, and the Fangio driving helmet/googles for PPH. Maybe just some drumsticks for Wurster? Can you crochet stubble?

Wurster never wears shorts. He does, however, wear The Denim Jacket fairly often.

I was going to suggest The Denim Jacket or the (now m.i.a.) Pink Shirt.

A Flyers jersey would also work for Wurster.

i really wanna sneak in and say that i think a pph goat with a lil bowtie would be the best thing ever and i've all but DREAMT about it since this thread was started and nigel made the cutest fucking bowties for PPH, like, last year and now when i think pph i think bowties.

that was a run-on sentence brought to you by "omg too cute to punctuate"

Bow-tie and suave suit-vest. BOOM, you have PPH.

We are the ones who don't slow down at all...

Not finished yet, but just thought I'd let you know how I'm doing. This here is PPH goat:

He's the only completed one so far, I spent too much time trying to sort out their outfits and so all that exists of the other two goats thus far is their heads, but I'm fairly proud of them, I gave Wurster messy hair and a little goat beard and JD goat has the closest thing to a swoop as I could manage (wool tends not to stay perfectly in place, it's perfect for Wurster's hair but I may have to hairspray the swoop into place when they're all finished).

And yes, I realise he is sadly lacking in suit-vest and also that he is wearing a normal tie and not an awesome bow-tie. Sorry for not following your really good suggestions! The reason for that (and also the reason why the other two goats are going to take me a while) is that while I'm pretty ok at crochet it turns out I'm not very good at sewing miniature goat clothes, and this was the best I could do. I'm going to try my best with the other two, I'm considering attempting to crochet a blue jacket for Wurster that will look sufficiently Denim Jacket-esque, and I am still working on finding a way to make wire glasses for John. I'm sorry for this taking longer than I meant it to, it's the summer so I've been distracted by a whole bunch of other things, and also sorry for the fact that the reality of these will not match up to how cool they looked in my head. But I think they'll be close enough! smiling smiley

Thanks! I'll try to get the others finished as soon as possible.

Finished!

I would have gotten a better picture of them but it's actually hard to make them stand up properly, I hadn't accounted for the fact that the added weight of their horns makes them fall forwards when I try to stand them anywhere. But they look better in real life. smiling smiley Rather than try to crochet a jacket to put onto the Wurster goat I just crocheted half of his body in blue, so that the jacket is a part of him. Not sure whether that's cool or creepy.

So, what do you guys think of the Crochet Goats?

I'm pretty sure that's how it is in real life too.

I'd love to! Not sure how I would organise that though, I'm assuming you don't live in Ireland so I'd have to sort out sending it to you. Also I don't have PayPal or anything, I don't know how paying me would work. Maybe we could swap things or something? I'll email you about it if you want.

Yay! I'm so happy that people like them. Now all I have to do is wait until tMG come near enough to here for me to go see them and possibly give the goats to their rightful owners.

everytime there's a new post in this thread i scroll past the cute baby goats and i get so psyched. I honestly cannot contain all of the feelings i have. They're all within the "cute" spectrum, though.
