Best version of Houseguest?

June 19, 2012 08:41PM | Best version of Houseguest?
Pretty much says it all in the topic. Of all the bootlegs, which version of Houseguest do you listen to the most, or find the most compelling?

the one on placeholders.

1840 - Hounds in Sonora, Mexico, invent music, write bogus "History of Music" to preserve anonymity.

The 2008 Bottom of the Hill one is really good: [archive.org]
And that sentiment applies to the whole show/recording, if you ask me.

Placeholders is arguably Nothing Painted Blue's best album, and it includes the original version of Placeholders, among other excellent songs:

I dunno, I actually think it's one of the weakest full lengths. I think Monte Carlo Method has some weak spots, like Collage Elements and Modern Again, but that Power Trips and Taste the Flavor are extremely solid. I can't seem to remember how the tunes Kissing Booth or Rightful Heir even go, something I couldn't say about any of the other records.

To be the weakest album in 0PB's catalog is still an extreme honor among music in general.

Unrelated but I often get surprised when I hear bordering on lewd lyrics in 0PB songs, I think they're hilarious, if not a little out of character.

re: Weakest

Wait whaaaaaaaaaaaaat (cf. Wurster). But you got: Houseguest, Ballwalker, Masonic Eye, Can't f(x) [speaking of bawdy lyrics], and Weak, all what I would describe as high points!

That being said I am quite partial to Power Trips, as well. I agree with you on Monte Carlo, it has weak spots, but I think Placeholders is stronger.

I'm with Alex. I like Placeholders, but Monte Carlo Method is just so perfect. Placeholders took a long time to grow on me.

do I have to hit you over the head with it?

The Monte Carlo Method has "Shameproof Flirt" on it, so therefore it's my favorite.
