tMG Road Trip

May 20, 2012 04:24AM | tMG Road Trip
Morning all.

My friend is travelling across America soon and i'm making a mixtape with the idea of a song for every city/place she's visiting. My initial thought was that this would be heavy with mountain goats (and hold steady, tbf) songs due to their often geographical lyrics. However, there's some of them where i'm struggling t remember if the place is mentioned in a song, especially where the title does not furnish any clues so a search in MediaMonkey yields nada.

Any help on the following locations would be cool. THanks!

Conneticut
Pennsylvania (i've got Matthew 25 for this but, man, that's a sad song and this is meant to be a fun road trip!)
INdiana (is it pale green things that mentions indiana sawgrass? Is there a better song out there that does (more fun song...))
Spring Green, Wisconsin
Iowa
north dkota
montana
Olympia, Washington
Portland, Oregon (this is, obviously, a bg choice...)
san francsico,
Las Vgas, Nevada

any other non tmg songs would be cool as well, it's not jst a tmg mixtape but Lovecraft in Brooklyn is on there already so one (or ten) more won't hurt.

Thanks!

Piazza NY Catcher - Belle & Sebastian (Is San Francisco-y)
Vanessa from Queens - Stephen Malkmus & Jicks
If Trancndental Youth's set in Washington state, maybe there's mentions on those songs?

New Star Song: "Redding" could refer to Redding, CT.
Pennsylvania Dutch Treat (listen here: [www.tumblr.com] )
Million: "the moon is high over iowa at night "
Down To The Ark: "The candidates met up in North Dakota"
The Extra Glenns - The Process Of Elimination: "in washington, it's cold as ice"
Bring Our Curses Home: "That night someone brought some shoes in From Los Angeles or Portland I forget"
Rotten Stinking Mouthpiece: "sun goes down San Francisco
Star Dusting: "toward the end of our first year in las vegas"
or Fault Lines: "as we try to make the money we scored out in vegas hold out for a while"

I'm assuming you've got all of Full Force Galesburg cued up for the drive through western Illinois (or at least Twin Human Highway Flares or Weekend in Western Illinois). Most of the other tMG songs that come to mind have been mentioned, so here are some others:

I really dig "Cold Missouri Waters" (about Montana) by Cry Cry Cry, but it's king of a downer.
Also, "Apology Song" by the Decemberists mentions a locale that I just assumed was Portland, but is actually in Missoula, Montana (where I believe the singer is from).

Tom Waits has some good lounge songs that would be good for Las Vegas, including Table Top Joe, which mentions a Vegas Casino.

tmg.net says it was only played once (1998-04-04 - Duke Coffeehouse, Durham NC). Based on the year, it may be an outtake from FFG. I found the mp3 on soulseek in a folder of random rarities and couldn't find the whole show. Here it is: [www.mediafire.com]
