Need Live Performances

April 30, 2012 01:44AM | Need Live Performances
I like to listen to a lot of the live performances (I'm sure the rest of you do too). The problem is I can't find any of the older live performances. This is the website I use(http://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Mountain%20Goats%22), and the old ones either won't work, or are in a different format. If anyone could send me in a better direction or help me in anyway it would be much appreciated.

I'm not going to look right now, but there's a thread that's not too old which I believe has a link to a source with nearly every (or at least a whole bunch) of live shows. Poke around a bit.

In my journey through the boards I found many many unreleased songs, so I thank you a lot for that my friend. All the live performances people were sharing had been removed though, so I'm still on the hunt for that.

I think I love you. This cloud may actually help me complete (as much as humanly possible anyway) the collection of unreleased songs listed on Nall's site.

Very long time lurker who has enjoyed the forums immensely in the shadows for many years, but had to break the silence to say THANK YOU for this tremendous offering! I thought I had a good deal of shows on digital file (111 before I started grabbing these here) but this, this is like winning the damn powerball lotto! This will certainly help quell my tMG lust until the new album drops. Much obliged!

hey velvetomatoe now that you've broken the silence you've got to stick around and chat! What's your favorite live show recording?

I've got big plans.Talking BlanketYay, Butts! LOL!

Sounds like a fine plan if you ask me. I don't know how much I'll have to offer, but I can attest that I'm certainly a ravenous superfan who can never seem to get enough.

To answer your question: Hands down 2008-11-07 - Philly @ the TLA. This was, I believe, my fifth Goats outing and my favorite because a) John broke out Attention All Pickpockets, which is my second favorite tMG song (closely behind Gameshows Touch Our Lives), b) a very rare showing of The Boys Are Back in Town cover, c) The Mess Inside, d) Source Decay. All around good energy and one helluva showing.

I think my next favorite would have to be 1997-07-16 - Olympia @ Capitol Theater due to all of the clutch oldies, especially Itzcuintli-Totzli Days, It Froze Me and Orange Ball of Hate.

How about you? What are some of your favorites?
July 10, 2012 12:19PM | Re: Need Live Performances
Yes! I was at that show in Philly, it was amazing!

My favorite recording is this one by my friend Thom. It's kind of bittersweet because I had gone away without access to email hours before Thom (who recorded it) emailed me that he got tickets to the show and wanted to know if I was interested in going. Plus the setlist is great and it's on a rooftop in Brooklyn during the 4th of July with fireworks going off in the background. I've gone to about 30 shows (since 2003) and have yet to hear Twin Human Highway Flares live. It was my favorite tMG song at the time and has since become a white whale for me.

Other memorable ones include March 18th 2008 at Webster Hall because that's where I met my girlfriend, standing in line and this show at the Northstar Bar in Philly because it's where I had first met Caliclimber and was introduced to the then active tMG IRC. Also after the show Peter came out and started talking with us and said "Wait, are you dollabill?" which was very cool and made my year.

Hi Bill!

I remember both of those Philly shows! I met you and Thom and North Star Bar. I hung out with Missy at TLA. Good times. I should plan to make more east coast shows.
July 10, 2012 01:18PM | Re: Need Live Performances
I also think that the North Star show was the one where JD found out his mother in law (i think it was) died right before going on stage.

We need to hang out again! I feel guilty not being able to make it to the west coast and having to wait for everyone to come to me.

That's awesome!! I'm looking forward to checking out both of those shows! Sucks about Twin Human Highway Flares, but I'm sure if enough of us rally together we can make something happen for you...John seems pretty swell like that and let's face it, that song is amazing (as is the entirety of FFG.) I've had the pleasure of meeting John but not Peter. He seems like a really laid back dude and being recognized by him in person...priceless!

Let me know the next time you're hitting up a Philly or NYC show; it's always nice to meet like-minded folks, especially fellow Goat's fans!

I'm at every Philly and NYC show now, I won't let that happen again smiling smiley We're usually right up front because we get there waaaaay too early. I'm 6'5" with glasses and my girlfriend is about 5'. Most of the time I'm wearing a Doctor Who baseball hat that I got from the NYC premere last year (where I stood in line for 8 hours just to be the last one in the door!). There's also a bunch of us haning out, we all met standing in line throughout the years. It's pretty funny where 90% of my friends are through the band and they're not as messed up as you'd think. smiling smiley

Yeah, I was going to join after TY but I had to get up at 6 am so it was not great timing!
July 10, 2012 04:03PM | Re: Need Live Performances
We ended up grabbing some vegitarian fast food then going to a bar where we randomly decided to yell "NORM!" at the next guy that walked in the door. It turns out that he was a tourist and it made his night, he was all excited and told the bartender how cool it was. I give all the blame/credit to Jeff smiling smiley

Who is this Jeff jerk you are talking about?

And didn't JD hang a "Post no Bills" sign in here a while ago?
