Help getting my Mountain Goat signed

January 05, 2012 09:52PM | Help getting my Mountain Goat signed
I have two Mountain Goat Magic: The Gathering cards, and I'd love to have either of them signed by John or other members of the band. But, they rarely perform here in Norway, so I'd probably not get the chance to get any signatures anytime soon.

So would anyone in the US or the UK (or elsewhere where tMG frequently tour) mind helping me out with this? How hard is it to get them to sign things these days?

I'm in Athens GA and will be seeing tMG on the 30th of this month. If there was a way you could get the cards to me, I'd do everything in my power to get them signed for ya, and send them back. It sounds like a blast to me, actually.

If I can't get them signed, I'd of course mail them back to either you or somebody else further down the tour schedule for you to get a second chance.

Just a heads-up: I don't think JD signs anything that is not his own work.

@EvilEivind, email me at gmacfalda@gmail.com and I'll send you an address if you're interested. I can talk to the guy at the record store who booked JD's last Athens show six years back and see if he can be of use in the endeavor.

Also- thanks for the heads up about what JD signs. I've never seen a show of his so I'm pretty thrilled. Anything else I should know about a tMG show?

Last time I saw a show, some dude near me in front of the stage got so excited that he puked during No Children.

So . . . that's one thing.

I'll be at the Barbican show in London if that helps. In the past he's signed my homemade CCTTST t-shirt and Master Of Reality book. Last time he didn't come out to sign stuff, but he wasn't well so that would explain that I guess...

If it's General Audience or Standing Room, be sure to get there really early (for Boston, you need to get there about two hours early for front row, I'm not sure about Athens) and stand in the front or second row. It makes it 10,000 times better. JD is good at relating to the whole crowd but he likes to make eye contact with people up front and sometimes talks to people in the front. Unless of course, you're not really a front row kinda person which I know some people aren't. Even if you aren't, I'd make an exception for this. Have an awesome time!!!!

Talks to/sings into the faces of the front row.

boom.

Thanks a bunch, VagabondKing and maffj! thumbs down

Guess I can try sending one card to each of you (as I have two copies), and see which of you manage to get it signed for me. Hopefully at least one of you will be successful.

That came today? Nice to see that, when it comes to the mail, North Wales & the USA are equidistant.

Also, a nice CD of tunes from Eivind! I'd have done this for free, but getting paid in tunes...that's nice.

Too bad not everyone accepts tunes as a valid currency.

Good it arrived safely! Hopefully you will both be successful. Godspeed, and thanks again!

Maybe I should get more of these, and send them out. Curious how John would react if someone was trying to get one signed at almost every show he did.

MISSION FROM NORWAY 2012 SUCCESS!

Ran into John outside of Low Yo Yo Records en route to the venue, and asked for a favor on behalf of his Norwegian fanbase. Aaaaaaaaaaaand forgot my Sharpie.

BUT WAIT

John was obliging enough to BITE the card, then he told me to meet him at the merch booth after the show for him to actually sign it. So yeah.

Eivind, you have enough genetic material, dental records and handwriting sample to clone a JD. And he remembered you from past forum posts.

This is a fantastic story.
January 31, 2012 08:41PM | Re: Help getting my Mountain Goat signed
Thanks again, VagabondKing! Very happy to hear this! Also very surprised John seemed to kind of know / remember who I was - and that he decided to bite it. I'm sure the encounter / experience could make for some sort of essay. *nudges you towards Wild Creature*

Curious what he'll make of it when someone in the UK also wants to get his signature / teeth marks on a MtG Mountain Goats card. Maybe I should try to get four; then I'd have a playset. Could make a Mountain Goat tribal deck. Guess its biggest weakness would be the Goatnapper.

Seeing as JD is so loose with his genetic material, I say that someone should bring a swab and vacutainer to the next show. Maybe an impression plate for good measure.

Then we can create a massive army of JDs.

But seriously, awesome stuff.
