mountain goats earworms

December 17, 2011 07:40PM | mountain goats earworms
Anyone else find them particularly sticky? I've had Palmcorder Yajna, Up the Wolves, Cubs in Five, and Fault Lines on pretty constant rotation for the last few weeks.

I was honestly hoping this was the most on-topic bot the forums have seen. A bot with a heart for Oreamnos parasites.

Edit: But yes, i've been listening to the version of "The Recognition Scene" from the Ruhrgebiet show a lot lately--mostly because John's definition of "recognition scene" is hilarious.

(Yeah, sorry, i don't post much. I've just been lurking, lately...)

I'm pretty susceptible to earworms at the best of times, and often they annoy the crap out of me, but tMG ones I can mostly deal with.

I expected this to be about a parasitic epidemic ravaging the actual mountain goat community.

Sinaloan Milk Snake Song gets stuck in my head so damn much, and I'll always burst out singing it and no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.

This Year, No Children, and Jeff Davis County Blues are also notable for getting stuck in my head for weeks on end.

This. Today's A.P. earworm was "crawl till dawn on my hands and knees, goddamn these vampires for what they've done to me."

I once spent a week at a camp doing volunteer work and I had Ezekiel 7 and Black Pear Tree running through my mind constantly for the entire week, and I couldn't remember the lyrics precisely so that was even more tortuous. On the 2nd to last day, however, I finally broke through and "clear as an insect's wing in sunlight" came to me. And there was much rejoicing.

i spent about 6 months waking up with alpha rat's nest lodged in my head. as lovely as that may seem, now the opening bassline reminds me of jumping out of bed and getting dressed for work sad smiley

When I hunt down the vampire that did this to us, I will rip out his heart with my hands!
- and -
Never forget what it felt like to live in rooms like these
- and -
.. and it hurts me when I move my jaw
- and -
our conversations are like minefields
- and -
...

All the goddamn time. There is alway a good reason.

Damn, I love the Mountain Goats.

It seems that whenever I have a terrible night of sleep and I toss and turn all night, I wake up to "ah, the fitful sleep and the fire engines, that I dream of when I dream..."

there's bound to be a ghost at the back of your closet, no matter where you live I couldn't sleep last night, and this wasn't helping :-/
December 22, 2011 07:57PM | Re: mountain goats earworms
i knew it got bad when every morning for about a week i would wake my partner up whispering a new mountain goats song under my heavy sleeping breath. she thought i was possessed.

thats when i knew i had a problem and needed some distance.

but the distance never came.

now i'm panhandling in chicago waiting for the cubs to beat every team in the league calling friends just so i can actively thank god for small favors in hi-i-i-i-igh doses

Today I've got this

slowly, surely
i saw the whole story unwind
i had never loved anyone like i loved you
and i had something on my mind

which replaces this

Someone's gonna wrap us up in styrofoam and paper
And mail us flat-rate right down to Hell

which I had for a few day's previously

*sigh*

Francis Mitterand, do you have the heater on?

All day.

(I know it's technically a Wckr Spgt song, but I'm referring to the tMG version.)

this isn't a mountain goats tune, but i cannot get the refrain of the Weakerthan's One Great City! out of my head. Which doesn't seem fair, as I have never even been to Winnipeg.

I, too, have never visited Winnipeg (or any part of Canada) and have been in the same situation.

Come and visit. It's nice here. Though maybe wait for spring.

I've always found "pink and blue" to stick in my head for several days at a time. there's a really powerful and kind of understated melody there that sounds more like pop music than what you'd expect from a lo-fi recording like that. I've always loved that little vocal run on "Louisiana live-oak"
