at zoop II, john played this one, and introduced it with a story about how everyone told him it sucked and shouldn't be on the album (let alone track 2). i felt guilty because i never liked it, but the live version won me over.

even though this thread is overly negative (), i can't help but single out the song that pretty much ensured i didn't listen to we shall all be healed more than a handful of times -- "the young thousands" (and "mole" didn't help matters). i actually listened to the album recently and those two songs didn't irk me the way they did back when it came out.

Only song I regularly skip? So Desperate. I mean I get it, as a song, but I don't like it. Pretty much anything else I'll listen to.

Oh I love "The Young Thousands"!! I think WSABH went from my least favorite 4AD album to a four-way-tie for favorite 4AD album.

"So Desperate" definitely. It's not even that I really dislike it (the lyrics are cool), but in terms of a live set where I know he can whip out the goods at any point, it just kinda takes up space that I'd rather ANY other song take up.

honestly there arent really any songs i would say i specifically dont like, i think he is consistently really good, there are a few songs i would say are subpar by mountain goat standards, but when he does make a song thats kind of bad(which is rare) its bad in a tongue in cheek kind of way so he gets away with it, like billy the kids dream of magic shoes, awesome song! the only way i can imagine ever hating a mountain goats song is if he had a sellout song that was really popular but sucked, something like that james blunt song, but i cant imagine ever making a song like that

Almost anything with the clicky-clacky screechy piano synth thing. I like them lyrically, but musically, I find them annoying.

Yeah, I love the Casio songs. So daggy in a way I can get behind.

I don't mind the Casio songs, but I can't listen to the album version of California Song with the Casio. I have to listen to live versions of just guitar and/or bass with the crowd screaming along. That is the only way California Song can be heard, and for me, the Casio fucks that atmosphere up.

I must say, one of the things I admire and enjoy most about The Mountain Goats is their (his?) consistency. Considering the amount of material, and how little of it is bad, how much of it is so enjoyable, the lack of weak songs is extremely impressive.

Is it because of the chorus? Because I love the song minus the chorus, which is almost reason enough for me to skip it often times.

yeah the "neutral meeting place, the Episcopalian church yard, a-ah-ah" thing is pretty great. i guess maybe it is just the chrous, yeah.

something is grating about the falsetto in this one that isn't in other falsett-songs. i think the levels are a little outta whack between the instrumentation and the vocals. the vox is super loud.

some of my favorite songs being mentioned in here, and some of my least favorites. always interesting

there are some songs that i sometimes dislike and sometimes don't but the ones i dislike with the most frequency are a couple on Tallahassee which is funny cuz i love the album as a whole i just sometimes skip Idylls of the King and/or peacocks cuz they annoy me


wouldnt say i dislike cobra tattoo but i do sometimes get bored and go to a different album when it comes on cuz it follows up some amazing songs

heretic pride has a few i dont always care for like so desperate but then sometimes it hits the spot

for some reason i thought i didnt like jack and faye much for a while but i think i need to revisit it

used to get super annoyed with i know you've come to take my toys away but i think its awesome now. but lonesome surprise is just tough to listen to sometimes just cuz staying together is obviously tough under those conditions
