tMG--at your house?!

September 30, 2011 09:53PM | tMG--at your house?!
Ok, can we just talk about how unbelievably awesome it is that JD is auctioning off a concert to be played in the winning bidder's living room? All I gotta say is, whoever wins is a lucky bastard. Also, those are some very lucky monkeys because I have the feeling this will raise a lot of money for them. So bid as high as you possibly friggin' can (I know you all will anyways). And know that somewhere, I will be sitting there being insanely jealous of you winking smiley

Yeah, many kudos to John for putting his time and effort into this. An amazing prize and I hope a big boon for the chimp auction.

Thought: Those of us who could conceivably GET to one's house (i.e. who are in the same area) could pool together and agree on one place to have the show and then combine our funds! The starting bid is $100, that's ten people pledging 10 bucks. Boston-area folks, any interest in that? Then we can ALL be at a homestyle tMG show. Of course people have to be legit and actually come through if their group were to actually win the auction and not punk out when it came to actually paying (leaving others on the hook to make up the difference), but it could be one way for us who otherwise couldn't bid to get in on it.

ETA: Whoops, missed a zero. Starting bid is a THOUSAND, not a hundred (which makes more sense but changes the math a lot). Oh well.

Oh ok, when you edited after I corrected myself I thought you'd just caught the same error I did in my own post. Pedant is just a person who corrects others' mistakes in a showing of knowledge (I was using it tongue-in-cheek of course). Anyway, yeah I'm sure there aren't many who could clearly know they can bid it up and pay it off in these tough times, but I just hope it does well for the cause.

I can say with some certainty that it won't be me. The bank of Brautigan extended some credit to some loved ones and is pretty much broke. I'm hoping Wild Creature will invite me and I can scare up the scratch to take Grayhound to his house!

well, i guess that makes me like a douche bag.

This event couldn't have come up at a more relevant time. I just began reading "The Third Chimpanzee," which is focused primarily on how humans are so different from lower primates while staring 98.6% of our genes with them, and just when this came up I was at the part where the author makes quite the case that cruelty towards chimps and other primates isn't unlike cruelty towards a mentally deficient person. It's a good book, check it out.

Whoever wins should also buy Eef Barzelay to be the warm-up band.

Hahaha! That looks to be a slightly different affair though. Eef seems to be just hiring his band out. Which is not a bad idea if you think about it.

Ah, the elusive front page. Thanks.

Guess the tMG auction is more for a private show, and putting him on a stage somewhere and selling tickets might be in poor taste, whereas the Eef offer is just whatever you want - solo in your living room, at a wedding, on a stage somewhere with tickets, etc.

The tMG auction doesn't seem to mention travel expenses and such though. Curious if he could get to Norway if I decided to bid. I think we're due for another tMG performance over here. Especially in my bedroom.

I'm a Boston area folk, and I'm very interested in that . . . I've got some modest funds, is there anyone else on board? New York? Providence?
