TMG posters??

September 14, 2011 11:48PM | TMG posters??
Hi, I'm currently in the market for a tmg poster but found difficulty finding any onlineeye popping smiley Since I'm not surprised at this fact' I was wondering if you wonderful people at the mountain goats forums could offer any advice or possibly a convenient link to a site or service. Preferably I wouldn't like to spend more than $15 but could spend up to $40. Thanks all (sorry if this is the wrong category or something, but this subject is tmg related)

I post about tMG all the time. In fact, you'll find the forums are chock full of tMG posters, and you don't have to pay us anything.

Gig Posters

If you look around, some of those posters might still be for sale. More often than not they're for sale from the designers websites and not on gig posters. Click the little "home" icon next to the designers names to check their websites.

Thanks for the link, Cali. God some of those posters are just gorgeous! All the really recent ones with The Beets are pure gold. Wish I'd been there. I was wondering, does anyone have any idea how all these posters come to be? I thought until recently tMG specifically just had one or two posters per tour but it seems like in some places, there's actually a different poster per venue.

Based on my experience with the Phish scene (every show has like 5-10 different fan-made posters), I'd say many of them are just fan-made and the John doesn't go after the artists for name usage since they are cool and most of them take a lot of time, work, and money to design and screen print so it's not like they're making a huge load of cash or anything. Also, venues will sometimes commission an artist to make a cool poster for promotional purposes and then sell them at the show or give them away with the first X number of tickets. Not exactly sure what the situation with tMG posters are, though, this is all based on what I see with other bands.

Etsy has a few.

Here's one.

BOOM! Another. This one is awesome.

Holy shit there's more?

Really guys this is getting out of hand.

More.

I sure hope the junkyard a few blocks from here burns down one of these days.

I'm basically a poster store.

Trippy.

Boom last one.

Also I'm not sure if posts like this are frowned upon, in terms of linking to buying things. (At least eBay seems taboo around here) if it is call me out and I'll put my head down and delete it in shame.

I would be grateful my children aren't here to see my posts,
If you'd ever seen fit to give me children.

HAHA!!! That one's so clever! I didn't quite get it until your subtitle. If I had to choose, I'd pick this one. JD flying away on the smoke. Looks like fun (and a good mode of travel).

Bands will often get a bunch of merch made for a tour -- buttons, t-shirts, screenprinted posters -- and then each individual venue they play at will produce their own poster as well (if they're doing a good job of promoting the concert, that is). Fan-made posters are a bit sketchy. They're almost always labors of love by a fan, but if they're ever for sale, it's essentially the same as making knockoffs of a Coach purse.

Here's some of the best concert poster designers working right now (imho):

That's what I was thinking. But it must be expensive for a venue to pay artists to make a poster for every act that comes through don't you think? That's why I wasn't sure. But I guess they do make a decent amount of money after paying the band and the costs to run the show.
