I live in Durham, and there was some rain and wind (and we lost power for a few hours, though when I left my immediate neighborhood the streetlights were still on so not entirely sure how extensive that was.) but nothing major. All was well in Durham, and now...it looks like a stunningly beautiful morning.

My son said it would be rude not to stop by and express our gratitude to everyone for their kind thoughts and well wishes. Although still a young man, he has impeccable manners, and I am trying to make an early habit of following his lead in affairs of etiquette.

So, thank you all from all three of us. One feels, in the intensity of the whole process of bringing a child into the world, the support of so many people: it's a palpable energy. The weather didn't really affect us much here in Durham but we have enjoyed the show of clouds through the hospital window.
