new post on the Sunset Tree is up and does not disappoint. as i described it on my facebook page, it is an intriguing stream of consciousness piece by the elusive and eccentric mike5998. and i love it very much. thanks mike!

you are welcome. it's a terrific idea for a thread, and it seems to have gotten this forum up and running again. and thanks, wild creature, for accepting such a skimpy entry, and especially for calling it stream of consciousness. it was considered of course, but it was not greatly considered by me, typed up very quickly this morning in a spurt of passion, and so therefore it will hopefully be considered inconsiderable in comparison to the other actual well-thought out and well-written essays on the site. if i had more time, i would think more.

ps. - also, thank you for your edit. the italics on the word "believed" were completely, utterly, and stupendously superfluous and unnecessary. not needed in any way, shape, or form whatsoever.

pps. - also, it looks like a space right after the phrase hast thou considered the tetrapod and right before the dash was put after the dash.

ppps. - let's just say, my entry was probably as considered as this post.

pppps. - also, it's probably a good thing i am not able to edit now what i did then.

ppppps. - as evidenced by my ongoing postscripts.

pppppp. - not required.

ppppppp. - how much do i get paid for my submission?

pppppppp. - just joshin.

ppppppppp. - my take on "up the wolves" is in code. i like this song way too much to pretend that i like the original lineup of wolfmother anywhere, anywhere, near as much.

pppppppppp. - FUCK, i spelled "bartles and jaymes" wrong! that's fucking hilarious. in the immortal words of robert plant, "nah, leave it!"

hey mike, i didnt notice the bartles and jaymes misspelling (i thought it was the other way) or i would have changed it. change made. i also fixed that dash. as for the believed, i have to say, it wasnt me, it lost the italics when i cut and pasted it i guess. if you want me to put it in, happy to do it. if you have any other changes, let me know and i can easily make them.

that goes for everybody. if you notice anything amiss, let me know and i'll fix, though i reserve the right to stop doing so if i get inundated with change requests (which i doubt will happen, as everyone has been very good at editing themselves so far).

also, if anyone is close to finishing a comparative essay, hurry up! we've got some neat surprises in store for the album artwork that is going to be supercool if it turns out how i think its going to turn out.

edit: mike, i called it stream of consciousness, but i assumed (correctly, i see) that it was considered -- the best stream of consciousness prose is always the most time-consuming. ask james joyce. wait, don't ask him, he's dead.

to paraphrase what i wrote in my e-mail to you, if you loved the last piece, you will probably love the one i just sent you less.

maybe you will love them equally if you see both as being neither here nor there.

in that case, i hope you love the new one i just sent you no less.

thanks, man. i will read right away. i don't want to put 2 essays the same person wrote in a row, so i may not put it up for a couple of days, but that is not for any reason other than the one i just wrote.

on that note, anybody else have essays almost done? bueller?
Re: Essays on the Mountain Goats
September 09, 2011 06:18PM
as i replied, not a prob.

almost certain they'll be the only two i'll do.

if i smashed both those albums together, i think only the following songs would fall off:

letter from belgium
mole
against pollution
dilaudid
lion's teeth
magpie

i'm not entirely sure why i mention it though.

new post up.
there is no happy ending there at all, man! (well, maybe a bit - i'm not sure how to take the last paragraph).

I always listened to You're in Maya with the idea that he overcomes it all. He steps out and then all his shit is forgotten. Maybe because he's drunk and it'll come back tomorrow, or maybe because he defeated the pinball machine, and then he'll come back tomorrow. Either way, i think by the end of the song i feel, even briefly, that it's gonna be ok.

Maybe that's what you hint at toward the end.

Also, very well written. I really enjoy the way you write - it has little things that set the scene and i also like the fact you swear. I know it sounds crass, and some writers think it's an easy wasy around expressing what you want to say, but i think profanity is an important tool and when i see it in a story, or a piece of writing, i can feel what it's trying to express.

So, er, yeah - great job, man. (tu)

edit: also, having just seen what mike's posted - it's details like that (which i was totally unaware of - Pinball is a pretty alien thing in the UK. We play pool, snooker and darts pretty fucking well, though!) which add a lot to what you write.

cumberland farms - the store that sells mad dog to 16 year olds with no i.d. asked for. at least that's what it was like at my cumberland farms. thanks guys for reading that story and commenting. i appreciate it. and yes, you're in maya was up on pwilliamgrimm dot com but i put it int there so there wouldnt be 2 mike entries in a row.

and anymore essays out there? it has been a bit since i've gotten one, and i'd love to put some more up. traditional reviews, twitter-like observations, or meditation pieces inspired by a song or songs, all are welcome. i will post the list of people who wanted to contribute again just to remind you, but everyone is open to submit, and i hope you do. it's a great chance to get read, and i know a lot of people are reading. . . . so submit!!
