Fantastic new essay up by the outstanding Carl Schlachte on Sad Young Cardinals, offering his take on the March 2012 New York performance of Transcendental Youth by the Mountain Goats and Anonymous 4. Check it out!

and yes, there will soon be a posting of Mike 5K's forum haikus on the site, as well. I am just trying to get it into a format where it doesn't take up 30 pages and is easily accessible to a reader. In the middle of a book I'm reading, a (long) short story I'm writing, and a book of poetry I'm editing, so it might take a bit, as I am also trying to practice law in there somewhere.

finally. fame, fortune, AND good looks.

i can't wait to be famous, mostly. paparazzi shootin my shit. gettin me in trouble and shit. "goddamn paparazzi," i'll say. and they will buy me a latte for a haiku about paparazzi and shit.

haiku for a latte from the paparazzi
paparazzi, you're the shit
you're the shit you shoot
you shot the sheriff

the fortune will be great too. i've come to the conclusion that the only thing i can do in order to get a whole lot of money without doing illegal things is to pray for it. so i prayed and prayed for lots and lots of money, as long as no harm comes to anybody in exchange.

must be why i haven't seen a cent yet.

god dammit!

and, yes, there will eventually be a set of haiku on SYC written by Mike however many K, but I have to organize it, get the ok from Mike and then publish it. I have a bunch of other things going on, but that one will get done eventually.

you always have my ok wc. no need to organize things if you don't want to.

the best kind of haiku
are disposable art,
like humans, or life.

you'd definitely not want to build it all up into something greater than the five or ten hikes that still make me laff.

october evening in brussels
eating mussels
with david lee roth

savage young men and women
with their opinions
al gore's internet

christmas is coming
the goose is getting fat
got change for a nickel?

the poor are cold
hungry babies suckle their dead mothers
christmastime

more mike haiku. that alone makes it worth spending time on the forums.

also, hey Shlack - did you see the nice comment someone posted to your essay on the Anon 4 TY performance at SYC? It's pretty, well, nice.

edit --> spelled Carl's tag wrong.

maiku

the anon 4 essay was pretty fantastic, but the commenter wasn't me.

good job anyways, CARL!

wait, carl's a poet.

carl, now, i want you to, when they're up,

tell me which maiku are poetry and which are just pure stunning crap.

I hadn't seen that comment, WC, but it's very nice! Thanks for alerting me to its presence.

Mike--though I am a poet I refuse to judge your haiku as it is would only be representative of one man's subjective taste! I am in favor of all of your haiku on principle.

also, the choice between calling something poetry vs. stunning crap is like a choice between calling something awesome vs. even more awesome.

if only i could write stunning crap, everything in my life would be glorious.

haiku for getting straight c's that one semester
in college
i got a 'c' in poetry
by writing stunning crap
Re: Essays on the Mountain Goats

It's the unstunning crap that we should worry about.
Re: Essays on the Mountain Goats
November 15, 2012 10:43AM
it just goes to show
if it's half stunning crap
it's half unstunning crap

hey by the way anyone who cares, Sad Young Cardinals is a website that publishes essays about the Mountain Goats. Please submit one! There is going to be a hard copy of the webite, well trade paperback, but you know what I mean, sometime next year, I think. So, submit one, and you will get published not only the interwebs, but with them there ink and papers that existed in the era somewhere in between papyrus and microbe-sheeps.

submit here:

I'm thinking about taking a stab at something about a show I went to / the obsession with esoterica in tMG "fandom"; I'll try kicking it around this weekend.

That being said I just went through & read everything & it's mad cool good job everyone etc.

I have an essay about Get Lonely I've been working on. Trouble is I'm only really motivated to write it when wine-drunk and feeling pretty blurry. So it may be a short while before it's presentable. And even then: a bit blurry.

& they were crowned with laurel in oblivion

oh, man AKMA. SYC could not ask for a better, more thoughtful writer to submit a new piece. I would love it if you would put something together (no pressure).
