Essays on the Mountain Goats

August 16, 2011 10:04PM | Essays on the Mountain Goats
So yeah, as you may or may not know, some of us were talking about a collection of essays about Mountain Goats albums, and how it may be cool to put some together and put them out there. So, that is what we are going to try to do. I started a blog where we can put them up, at www.sadyoungcardinals.blogspot.com, and it will kind of be a first come, first served kind of blog. If there are enough of them, I may propose publishing a hard copy, but that may be a little ambitious at this time. So, a sign-up sheet kind of thing was proposed, and I think that is a good thing, and this thread will serve as that. The idea is to have essays on albums, but I don't see why we have to have that a make or break rule, so if you fancy writing an essay about a particular show, or even a song, that has touched you in a certain way, I say go for it.

As for parameters, I don't think there are many -- If more than one person wants to write about a particular album, show, etc., I say do it. I will put a 500 word minimum on each essay -- just so I don't feel compelled to post an essay such as
"LotWtC sucked" == but knowing a little bit about your average MGs fan, I don't think that will be a problem. If some glaring problem arises and a new rule or rules need to be added, I reserve the right to do so.

I guess I have volunteered to be the host of sorts, so once you finish an essay, send it to me at mhession63 at gmail dot com and I will post it without undue delay, and pop in every so often to let people know when essays have been posted.

So, sign up sheet should go something like this:

1. P. William Grimm -- Satanic Messiah

Say, are somewhat lenghty and kind of a little more elaborated, very personal reviews also ok? If so, I could try to translate my review of Tallahassee...

Also: only on the Mountain Goats forum could you find someone coming in asking for help on their homework and then see it spawn an entire forum-wide essay project.

I may be a long time lurker who only recently started posting, but this project is too interesting to pass on (and it will keep me writing when I need a break from my dissertation...)

Clementine - Full Force Galesburg

(though I've long ruminated on Jack & Faye so that may also yield something)

Awesome turn-out so far. Whenever I get an essay, I'll start posting. This should be interesting.

And Doc, if you're proud of it, submit whatever you want, we'll put it up.

I had written an essay for college on The Life of the World To Come that I mentioned here a while back.

If you want to post it, I'll send it your way and throw this right here:
Josh Grube - the Life of the World to Come

If you don't want to include it as it isn't technically in this project, I understand. I won't pick up an essay though as I am extremely occupied writing-wise with classes, my school newspaper job, and being a correspondent for my school's radio station in aforementioned newspaper job.
