There was only one.
It was lost for many years, then finally discovered hidden behind a wall, in an apartment in the 18e arrondissement of Paris by a young girl named Simone. Feeling the power of The Picocassette rush through her body, and realizing it's magic to sway people's thoughts and change their emotions, she thought first to use it to climb her way up the political ladder, and bring peace to all of France, peace like none had seen since the Great Facebook Wars of 2013. Then, in a moment of lucidity, she realized that The Cassette's powers were of great evil, and decided to throw it in the river Siene.
As she ran through the streets, to the banks of the Siene, the Keepers of The Tape felt the power of The Tape once again, power they had not felt for decades. They awoke, and rushed after young Simone. She ran, ran as fast as she could, remembering the legends of the Keepers of The Tape, and of how they were evil men who would stop at nothing to use the power of The Tape, even if it meant the destruction of all mankind. As she neared the precipice of the Siene, they were right on her heels. She knew that even if she destroyed The Tape, they would still kill her, and it would be a terrible death. Knowing this, she hurled herself into the Siene, clutching The Tape, and hoping that in death she could keep it's powers from ever bringing darkness to the world.
Many years passed. The Keepers of The Tape were long gone and forgotten, and even young Simone, the doe eyed girl who saved humanity, was herself forgotten. However, The Tape was not. It's memory remained, seared into the collective consciousness of humanity, in glints and whispers of a time long passed. The Siene was drained in the year 2371, as a humanitarian aid measure to supply aid to a war-torn United States of New Canada. At the bottom of the river bed, near the right bank, in the 18e arrondissement, a human skeleton was found. No one gave it much mind, at first. Paris is a city almost as old as humanity itself, and as the Siene was being drained, many things were found. Small boats, coins, money, jewelrey, weapons, bottles, cans, and the odd skeleton here and there. All human remains were catalouged, as a matter of course, to be properly buried later. This one, however, was catalouged as holding a "small clear acrylate polymer case, containing an archaic sound reproduction format, possibly dating to the late 1980s".
An archaeologist on the team, Dr. Vaerst, who was in charge of catalouging the remains read the report, and remembered stories and whispers of The Tape. He had always felt that they were not just tales, but that there was a ring of truth to them. Upon examination of the remains, and confering with several of his closest friends and colleauges, they identified the tape as genuine. Young Simone had protected The Tape, even in death, for nearly 357 years.
It was then decided that they had a mission to complete. Poor Simone couldn't destroy The Tape, but they had to carry on with her task of destroying it, even if it destroyed them. Legend spoke of The Tape being forged in the molten plastic of Mount Memorex, far across the silicon fields of Taiwan. It would surely be a long and arduous journey.
However, The Tape can be destroyed by any common laboratory blowtorch, and need not be taken back to it's source to be destroyed. Kind of a faulty mechanism, if you ask me, but I didn't make the damn thing. So, Dr. Vaerst and his friends torched the sucker, and brought peace to the whole planet. A monument was erected to Simone in the dry bed of the Old Siene, and the wars ended in the United States of New Canada. Oh, and they had cookies.
So, long story short, there was one, but there isn't anymore, because it was evil.
