so the upstate new york thing is actually happening?

edit:which airports would we be flying into?

Upstate New York is pretty big, I think it would depend on exactly where this is going to be. I hope at least a general area is announced soon so I can get tickets. I just need to know if it'd be easier to fly into Pittsburgh and stay with family there for a bit then drive up, or fly into NYC and hitch with somebody from the forum here.

I hope to give details in the coming week. I would just tell everybody what I know right now, I'm not trying to be all secretive & mysterious, but the internet is what it is, and if I say "ok this is what I'm trying to do," the shit will hit a half-dozen other message boards & then the newswires with a quickness. I can't have that, so I gotta hold off. So don't nobody worry about nothin' tell I tell you what's up, hopefully by Wednesday. I am putting some pressure on a special guest who will wow you too if it works out.
April 22, 2007 06:09PM | Re: Question from John for MG People
You can just create a guestlist from people on the forum and allow them one or two guests.
That might be a bit difficult to manage though.

And the only place I've seen discussion travel to is the listserv.

Man, I would love to do this, but I don't think I can afford it this summer.

Well I'm heading up from the philadelphia region, and I've got some spare seats, probably 2-3. So if anyone is flying in to philly and doesnt want to rent a car, or lives in the area and can't drive, drop me a message or email.

I actually think it'd be kind of cool if you didn't announce specifically where it was until right before the show. I just need to know a region so I know where to fly in to; the exact place doesn't matter that much.

That's a really neat idea, but I'd hate to fly to New York, and end up missing the show because I didn't hear where it was.

Just a thought... but John should have some sort of contest to pick someone to open for him... there's some insane talent over in the "your music" thread... it might work out.

but that would be like going to see an incredibly awful attempt at The Mountain Goats, then The Mountain Goats themselves.

1. cheap flight from NYC to basically anywhere in Scandanavia (preferably Copenhagen) roundtrip on the 18th of june. airline suggestions?!?!?!?

2. someway to get to NYC from SD or LA for free/ very cheap ( i believe its illegal in most states to hitchhike in the USA?) sometime after the 11th?!

PS MY STARTING DESTINATION IS MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, INDIA!
April 23, 2007 03:20AM | Re: Question from John for MG People
Hey John, how certain is this? If I am spending 900 dollar to fly in from Denmark, you better be damn sure this thing is happening. Them flights ain't getting any cheaper. My insides are on fire just from thinking about how great this weekend'll get.

And, my god, just two weeks before I'm getting married, this will be my sort of last wild trip before getting caught up in baby stuff and serious life. I don't think my wife'd let me travel that far for just a concert had we actually been married already (kidding), so it comes exactly at the right time.

Best,
Jakob, Denmark

I know plenty of people who have hitchhiked and are none the worse for it.

There are some relatively cheap airlines from Europe to North America, but I guess that doesn't help you.

be difficult to get from san diego or la to new york city for free, tis about a 3 day drive hauling ass. I'm flying from california also and the plane ticket will be rigth around 300-400 USD.
April 23, 2007 10:40AM | Re: Question from John for MG People
I have a feeling this thing is going to be unbelievably massive, especially since people are willing to throw down 900 bucks to come in from Denmark. Where is there a camping spot in NY that will be able to accommodate five bajillion people? Haha.

(And how will five bajillion people react to each other?)

I know I won't be able to make it (and am way sad about that), but damn I can't wait to hear the stories, not just about the music, but about the weird things that happen when tons of strangers go camping together. This thing could be a sociological study, really.

This is pretty well travelled area within the hippy community, but I can't wait to see what hundreds of indie kids actually relaxing looks like.

I definitely plan on being there but this becoming huge is one of the few things that might keep me away. I don't know how you could possibly keep it small though.
