Yeah they all do, but it makes more sense contextually that it says brook

I've never ever heard anything other than babbling brook, you people are crazy

Probably crazy but I think drunk works better regardless but it could just be like my opinion.

I apparently have two mishears with Cry for Judas.

I thought...

"Till those thoughts are a blur or spinning reels"

...was...

"Till those thoughts are a blur of spinning wheels"

And also I heard...

"Some people crash two or three times"

...as...

"Some people crash to Earth three times"

I always heard "2 or 3" too

Is there a concensus here? I though it was the second (as do at least some lyrics sites).

"Sometimes you try to freeze time / 'Til those thoughts are a blur of spinning wheels?"

Also, do people know what this means? I always picture that thing where a wheel spinning on film looks like it's not moving because it's syncing with the video frame rate.

i never cared enough to look into it but i have always heard it as spinning wheels

I've heard a few live show recordings where he definitely says reels.

Interesting.

I just realized I've actually been hearing "these slots are a blur of spinning wheels". Which I kind of imagined like the little slots on a roulette wheel or something.

Or slot machines...
Re: Lyrical 'Mishears'

next rumor on reddit

JD wrote the line in cry for judas about slots because he suffered a crippling gambling addiction and almost lost his house to the slot machines

If it's on reddit then it must be true.

well that makes more sense.

Still trying to connect the "try to freeze time till"...

I like the Biblical implications here.

And I literally just got out of my car listening to Broom People and I CRANKED it at the end...I have no idea what any of you people are talking about. He even uses the vowel sound like "Uhhh" not the vowel sound that rhymes with "Book"...John himself could come here and tell me I'm wrong and I still wouldn't believe him. I don't care. Motherfucker said Babbling Drunk and that's that.

Cry for Judas: https://vimeo.com/50380374

Definitely "slots", I'm going with "wheels", but I can't 100% rule out "reels" here.

Broom People:

Dave, if I try really really hard, I can almost hear on the album version that word starting with "dr" instead of "br", but I can't hear the penultimate* "n"

In other liver versions, the "br" is much more pronounced. (e.g.: https://youtu.be/ar6Dyux9syM?t=245)

*technically I suppose I mean the penultimate letter, which in your version would be "n"

Poster dtrom4, When I was recording that jammy and looked at the lyrics sites and they all said that he said Brook I then listened to the album version like 10 times and my only problem was not hearing that N but then I practiced singing it a bunch of times at a loud full recording level volume and I found that I had to work to enunciate that N too...so I felt vindicated. I also didn't care because I have always heard it and sang it my way so my recording of it will be my way too. I know Sid Vicious couldn't be arsed about what Frank Sinatra was mumbling about in the original My Way and I felt kinda the same way...just less white suit jackets and no swazi t-shirts.

Dave, I am on the record as being 100% for you singing that song any damn way you please.
I just happen to think you're wrong about it being the actual, true lyrics.

Oh, man, now I'm hoping you listed your band as "Babbling Drunk".
